Here's the full article: http://blogs.ign.com/Matt-IGN/2007/01/04/42284 Whether or not its real..... It's interesting to note that there may be a leaked version floatring around out there Ryan
The blogger admits to using a mocked-up screenshot, and then goes on to claim the actual DS version looked similar enough to the Xbox original - which I doubt is possible techically when even the Wii has problems comparing with the console Halo debuted on! Apart from the obvious "ego clashing" that would come with one of Microsoft's biggest money spinning franchises being licensed to a major hardware rival, does anybody else feel this is just another cruel hoax? I might be entirely wrong of course, but the chance of this being real are incredibly slim in my opinion... unless a prototype did leak, though I suspect if such a thing does exist it may be subject to perhaps the greatest level of security ever placed on such a game!
Rare is doing several titles for the ds, and Oddworld munch's oddesy did arrive on the gba, as did mech assualt. Lest not forget that Gizmondo once claimed that it had a Halo license. There may be a slight chance that it does exsist Ryan
To call Nintendo a "major hardware rival" of Microsoft's is a bit of an exaggeration. Microsoft doesn't really see the two as being in the same market and the execs are rather friendly with each other. -hl718
Sounds like someone caught them in bed! Regarding Halo, I wouldn't give a flying damn either way. Metroid Prime Hunters was a solid game, but it wasn't fun. Not as fun as Metroid titles have been ever since the first one. It didn't feel like metroid beyond the license really. As for Halo, we all know how I feel about that game But indeed, how good could your generic macho-man FPS do on the DS, beyond selling just for its license and to the fans (Who are very many)? DS and FPS are not a nice mix all together, as the controls cramp your hands early on. That's the main reason other FPS titles haven't been attempted really. I think that guy Matt from ign has ideas of grandeur about himself and his abilities to influence company releases and developments..
Yes, it was a "dummed" down port, and not terribly good, but it did arrive. I remember that THQ had a deal with M$ to publish several franchises on the console. MechAssualt was published by Majesco on the DS Ryan
I'd still be more excited to see the planned Dreamcast version of Halo (if this existed in the first place), though to be fair I'm not exactly a fan of the series so it's not really high on my wanted list - it's probably more of a curiosity than anything else! While there's no doubting the fact Microsoft and Nintendo aren't directing their hardware at the same market, you'd be stupid to think they're not rivals. As for the idea their executives being "in the same bed," this isn't impossible yet remains a completely null point. The same could have once been said for Microsoft and Sega, whose relationship didn't really last the test of time. I have to agree that FPS titles don't really work on the DS, since most are little more than glorified tech demos with only the very basic level of sophistication in their playability and story. Come to think of it, doesn't the whole genre slightly lack in these departments? Apart from their flashy visuals (which don't make a game, in my opinion), what else do the likes of Halo, Gears Of War and Crysis have going for them that couldn't have been done a decade earlier in Quake or Duke Nukem? So much for progression...
honestly... its probably fake. Though I hope its real, just b/c it pisses me off to know that ign thinks it can just post bogus stories. Its unfair for a site to declare a story as some amazing exclusive, and then just claim it was a joke. I mean wt hell? Everyones been linking to it, and so forth, so it generates the site unfair hits. Jokes are okay on april 1st, but after that they have no place on a news site.
for more on Ballmer, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvbWLfr-Z4s <- it's him selling Windows 1.0 OS man this is priceless, just read: Kirby 'homosexual' ?! full interview http://middaysoftware.com/MinhsBlogs/articles/223.aspx
And I guess you've never learned how to check a source. That quote (and interview) is completed fabricated. I'd not be using it to "back up" a debate any more than I'd use something printed in the Onion as a reliable source. Heh. -hl718
