After 18 days of waiting, my Handy-Fami Eight finally arrived off of ebay. Let me tell you, this thing is SMALL! It's about the size of an N64 controller. It has two controller ports (plus built-in controls for on the go play) for playing on a TV, and even has AV in if for some strange reason you want to play your XBOX 360 on a 2 or so inch screen. Unfortunately, the AV in is screwed up right now in an attempt to fix a non-existent problem. Apparently the GBA port on the bottom is to get the thing to work, not so you don't have to remove it. :x You WILL need a converter to play NES games, which came with mine. But mine was used, so I don't know if it comes with one new. The clone itself is well built and the controllers are excellent. The hardware itself is a typical NOAC. Plays most games, but some probably wouldn't work correctly. Also, because of the over-sized NES carts, the single gets screwed up sometimes and occasionally freezes as well. Both the start and the select buttons light up when you press them (blue and white respectively) and the built-in controller works great. Hopefully the AV problem will be fixed soon soi I can test that. Pics should be up soon, I would get them up sooner but I have to get to bead and when I try to get on Photobucket my network connection dies and I have to restart the computer.
Funny, A guy sent me an email about this console with the same screwy AV problem (people think because I've got the site with all the Famiclones then I must be some kind of Chinese-hardware-clone-fixit-guru, like I can work some kind of super-repair magic over the internet and tell them why thier recently purchased knock-off isn't working correctly.) Anyway, I've been thinking of getting one of these myself, but not if they all come broken out of the box like that.
I had one, sold it to another member here too. Like you said, it's not ideal for plugging in NES carts. Also some cartridges (like MMC3 missing the middle pins) didn't seem to work with it at all unless passed through the game genie. It was a decent NES clone I suppose with that neat portability. It's really amusing to use it to hookup your GameCube or Xbox 360 to your GBASP screen.
Mine wasn't broken out of the box. Some guy on Benheck has one and the AV in owrks fine. Mine did too until it was opened. Something's probably come lose.
