Ok, it's hardly new, but it's new to most and certainly to me! So, it might be completely new to you too!

This is a great service that is completely free to UK residents. You register ownership of valuables, gaming equipment, laptops, mobile devices and others. If the sad day arrives when you are robbed or they are stolen, then you can use it as evidence of ownership, recording patterns of crime and also informing the Police of the theft.

It means that the Police can automatically trace the items back to you, rather than them all ending up in Police auctions!

In relation to mobiles, this service doesn't block the 'phone (you still need to call your Network), but I still feel it is a very useful service because in many instances items could be traced back to the original owners providing more attention were paid.

Have a look - I have started it on the Law Enforcement page, so you'll need to head to home page. There is a case study on this page however, which explains things nicely.

This is new to me too!

A very useful service, however it would be nice to see some stats on how successful it has been so far.

Agreed, plus some direct quotes from the Home Office & Metropolitan Police, otherwise my paranoid mind is telling me "you are giving someone all of the details of all the valuables you own, plus where to find them and your contact number..."

    ;-)

I have registered my daughter's stolen mobile 'phone.
