Happy 25th Birthday, Master System!:dance::clap::dance: I know it wasn't so succesful in US, but in Europe and Brazil it was, even though it only arrived here by 1989. It was my first true console (already played games on my brother's Atari 2600), and have tons of good memories of it. So many great moments, this was the console that made me like games so much. Add that the fact that Sega ruled the arcades by late 80's / early 90's and most games ended having ports to it. As much as i like the NES / Famicom as well, and played it on a friend's house, my home console was always a Master System. Unfortunately, i ended up selling mine with tons of games, when i was a teenager. Guess it's right to say we do dumb things during teenager years. Still, Thank you Master System!
Oh, the good old Master System! My first ever console back in 1987 or was it 1986? I had one of the early systems put it that was with the snail game and Hang On built in. It also came with a cartridge of Marksmen Shooting which I loved. The Master System gun was so accurate. In fact it was more accurate than the Saturn guns and they were very good.
My first console..takes me back to times with Alex Kidd (Miracle World) and Castle of Illusion. Magic.
One of my favorite systems every as well as being my first console. I had the Sega Master System Plus just before the Sege Master System 2 was released. Golden Axe, Castle Of Illusions and Ninja are my fondest memories (Amoungst others). It's nice to see this system getting some attention on it's 25th birthday what with all the attention the NES is getting with that guy playing 750 games in 24hrs etc..
When Everyone had the NES I had the Master System...it got thrown out in the great Console clear of 2010 due to the fact I have it emulated on me Lappy
The Master System isn't 25 until next year as it didn't get released until 1986 in America and a limited release in the UK, what you mean to say is "Happy Birthday Sega Mark III"
Master System had a limited UK release? Sorry mate but the Master System could be bought everywhere in the UK and Europe. It was very popular in Europe which probably helped pave the way for the Mega Drive's popularity in Europe. Back on topic. The best version of Populous is on the Master System plus a wicked version of Bubble Bobble.
I think what Jamtex meant to say was that it had an limited release for the year 1986. The main release was in 1987.
Growing up my cousin's had the SMS which I inherited and I had a Genesis to complement it. To this day I still cannot play a NES game without cursing at the lack of palette selection.
Haha man I remember playing this in my neighbour's house when I was 3! AFAIK she still has it stored somewhere.
Oh well, i don't know if people will agree with me, but i consider the Master System to be "Mark III +". Plus the Mark III was a Japan only product, while the Master System was released worldwide. And to be honest i thought the SMS was released on 1985 in Japan. My mistake. I'll correct the topic with the name: Happy 25th Birthday, Mark III / Master System Wikipedia for more nostalgia info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Master_System
Happy Birthday Mark III, I wish you had more original games and less shitty ports, I wish your hardware actually was better than the NES being released years later and I wish you had 3rd party support.
