It was nice to see Grace Hopper got the Google Doodle today. http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/dec/09/grace-hopper-google-doodle-cobol-computer-language She was, amongst other things, the main developer of COBOL, which was influenced by her FLOW-MATIC language for UNIVAC I. COBOL is one of the earliest programming languages and was designed to have a structure akin to English, so non-programmers could understand the code. It is still in use today.
