I know it's not celebrated this side of the pond, but I'm aware that TGD is pretty much the largest family event of the year (eclipsed perhaps by Christmas for the kids) so Happy Thanksgiving Day! I hope everyone gets to spend some time with their family. ;-)
Yep... the day we celebrate the first settlers which came to our country and effectively wiped out an entire race.
that really never was the reason, as indians are only brought up in connection to it in elementary kids stories. It had more to do traditionally with thanking god for all that people had, like plenty of food after a harvest. They probably can't teach that in school, so they focused on the first famous time plymouth pilgrims met with indians for a meal. But yes, none of this would be possible without that happening. No sitting on our asses watching football, no eating shitloads of food, and no turducken.
:smashed: Happy Thanks Giving all. A time to forget jaded misanthropic forum posts and sit down with family and friends and enjoy the company of good people and great food. Also a 4-day weekend!
I'm so hungry right now... Only an hour until the festivities start. I'm watching Green Bay smoke the Lions right now. Then hangin' with the GF for dessert at her house. Tomorrow, walking up at the crack to go to Circuit City to get my little bro a 360, then a parade, and then the KillTurkular begines. Good times. Hope everyone has a great holiday!
Just got done watching that game. That gobbler trophy was pretty damn funny that Brett Favre got. But yeah, happy thanksgiving, guys.
Ew, I would hate to be going anywhere tomorrow. That's when all the nutjobs are out at the stores. Mmmm turkey. I like turkey and stuffing, but I'll pass on the family and football. I'd rather eat turkey & stuffing followed by more Gears of War.
I had to work (10PM last night 'til 6 this morning), and my family is out of town. At least some of my friends are in town for the weekend...
To me, Thanksgiving is a holiday about Family. Not really about "A celebration about taking over the Indians" at least, not in my eyes. If you think about it, Christmas was fucked up in Europe WAY before it became commercialized in the US. It used to be a holiday where peasants rioted in the streets.
