Looks good from this single screen shot. According to IGN, Arc System Works is developing it. Preview w/ Video
Bring it. ASW certainly know how to do awesome looking hi-res 2D games and, well, it's Contra.
I'm not liking it. Hard to judge from just one screen, but it doesn't look as detailed as crisp and as Contra 4; and the character designs are kind of meh. Male character looks a bit like Strider.
Maybe I'm crazy, but Contra 4, Rebirth, III, Hard Corps and maybe even Shattered Soldier all look nicer and more gritty than what I can see from that screenshot at least. It's got that kind of overly bright, washy, bloom look to it. Of course I'm probably a little bit more bias towards the older stuff. The "anime" style characters aren't exactly my favorites either. I prefer the "Bill and Lance" style 80's soldier types or even Browny and Brad Fang. Then again, it's hard to judge much from just a desert stage; perhaps I'm jumping the gun a bit. I'll surely still play it no matter what. It can't be any worse than Contra Force.
I tend to always start picking on the little/stupid things. The current screenshot annoys me 'cause it has an (apparently) female character named "Christer" Is this some stupid Arc System drag-queen joke or just general stupidity? Anyway, much more excited about the Rush 'n' Attack, but hopefully this'll end up being okay too.
It's Arcsys. Of course theres a female character, gotta make doujin's from SOMETHING, and not everyone wants hot, sweaty yaoi.
Yeah. You're probably absolutely correct. Saw the video on 1up says Krystal (but the latest press shot(s) says Christer). Anyway, videos don't impress me that much. Looks kinda... bland 'n' shallow in my eyes. +There's just something awkward about the latest shot (the rendering, light effects, the 3D models 'n' textures, etc.). It's like some sort of reversed Disgaea 3 thing or something. +Not really a fan of the "not-Contra" music, especially since it's already been done before in Contra games. Still keeping my fingers crossed. Like the life bar thingies in the boss fight and stuff and a few other little details.
"Well, you have a life bar if you choose to use it -- the game's Arcade mode allows hardcore Contra fans to test their skills in a manner that retains the classic difficulty." From the interview. This game is gonna rock my socks off
I'm not a big fan of Contra (never played any of the games for more than a few seconds), but this looks pretty cool to me. I really like the graphical style, and it looks pretty fun too.
