I saw it today so you might not want to read it if you're worried about spoilers.... Overall it's OK, but nothing great. Apparently I'm in the minority with that opinion. The people I saw it with loved it and right now it's at 97% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. It felt more like a TV show that was past it's prime that you still watch anyway. You love the characters, but you just kind of stop expecting anything from it. Voldemort seemed more like a self-parody than a threat. Ron just kind of appears on camera as a lump. The battle scenes have the same magic spells that just don't really mean anything anymore. The romance between the characters is just tacked on while they go from one drama to the next. At the end I found myself not really caring who lived or died. The story seemed to take over the characters kind of like the final season of LOST. Hagrid suddenly shows up on camera and I was like, "Oh, yeah." Snape was interesting but the other people felt more like they were just doing cameos for a finale. I think after 8 films we've stretched the limit of how interesting one story can be.
Disclaimer: I'm sure I'll be forced to go see it one way or another. The movie seems way overhyped for one reason or another. I've seen more than two articles on "news" sites (not Harry Potter fan sites) that have a line or two detailing that ZOMG we now get to find out how the Harry Potter series ends! Because the movie isn't based on a book that came out a few years ago right? I understand that people get excited and I don't want to be a wet blanket (as well as the fact my mentality seems to almost always move itself into the polar opposite of popular media) but it seems a bit ridiculous. We already know how the movie ends. We already know what the story is. Sure there are some differences but its not as if Dumbledore won't die and Voldemort will decide to become good with Harry murdering him in cold blood and taking his power. I am curious to see how they render some more confusing scenes from the book. What I'm more curious to see is how the movie studios will inevitable try to squeeze a few more sequels/spinoffs/prequels out of this "last" movie. Cinema Snob here has an interesting take on it between two different "reviews": http://www.thecinemasnob.com/ But Cinema Snob does midnight screenings as much as possible even if the movie is known to be terrible ahead of time. After waiting out all night for the Nintendo Wii I'll never do that again.
There's always gonna be the people who feel like they either need to underhype or put down a movie, or just may not be a fan for w/e reason as I understand it. Not disqualifying your opinion at all here, however, I've heard nothign but rave reviews for this series and, though I've yet to see it, it sucks I think that the HP movies are coming to an end, time to probably get the books IMO
I actually went back and watched the Half-Blood Prince and liked it a lot more the second time. I think I'd forgotten some of the book since it's been so long since I read them. The direction overall was good. I have part 1 of the Deathly Hallows ready to watch again on my iPad. After I watch that I might give part 2 another go.
Sure, the movie is overhyped. But for a series with so many sequels it was more than okay, it served its purpose to entertain me
slept during half of the movie... Part 1 & 2 were the worst of the saga even if HP is not my cup of tea anyway.
That movie, as a movie, if you look it as only a movie and look at it alone. It sucked. The plot sucked. The special effects sucked - compared to other multimilion movies. The actors suck. I went because my gf loves the series but goddamit. It's so bad but sooooo bad. If you compare to other franchise like lord of the rings.. the movies are not even close to the peter jackson's production.
Rewatched Deathly Hallows Part 1 last night.... Really good direction, some really beautiful scenes, but too many long stretches where it just seemed obvious they needed to expand a book into 5 hours of film for nothing more than sheer profit.
Seen it, it's not worth watching in my opinion. It was a dissapointing finale.. I really didn't enjoy any of the Deathly hallows movies. They were extremely boring, looked almost black and white asif it was in the stone age. Does anyone else feel the same way as me? Who enjoyed it and why? Just curious...
Finally saw part 2 yesterday, some scenes were pretty cool but overall predictable as the book already detailed the ending. For the diehard fan who doesn't mind their mind's version of the book to be sullied I'm sure it was awesome. For the rest of us? Meh. Particularly if taken as a stand alone movie. Two parters are always cash grabs.
