(spoilers obviously) Finished the last book. Not bad. But during the last battle at the castle I found myself imagining it in CGI. Kinda strange... Some things I got and didn't get... I guess Voldemort's curse in the forrest killed the only thing it could, which was the part of himself inside of Harry. Harry stayed alive because his blood was in Voldemort. I have no clue if this means that no one could kill Harry while Voldemort was still alive or if it just applied to Voldemort. What's the deal with the Elder Wand? Is it an actual wand, ot is it a symbolic thing where your own wand becomes the elder wand? I was reading a message board and someone commented that too often the books talk about what happens then gives you the reason after, usually at the end of the book by Dumbledore. I had to agree. Usually the last chapter is devoted to him telling Harry just what was going on throughout the entire book. The baby in the station was the part of Voldemort that was taken out of Harry and killed? Since Harry wasn't afraid of death he was able to "conquer" death and so was worthy or possessing the Deathly Hallows?
Ooooh finally someone telling me how it ends - there is a contest going on between me and friend of mine, she telling that JK will make Harry die for the others and me telling that hell die of aging. Who's right??
Ah, I just saw the other thread. Not trying to start a war or anything. I got the book late and just finished it. Didn't think it would cause so much hostility.
Don't get me wrong, I love Spot too but I much prefer this... I just can't believe how bloody hungry he is
LMAO! Dammit, the very hungry caterpillar is the nickname my gf keeps calling me... And I have that spot book somewhere...
Now, if you wanna talk hungry: Not to spoil the ending, but scroll down: . . . . . . . . . He eats even drinks all the water in the tap, that's fucking hardcore!
LMFAO - seriously, I find your post fuckin hilarious  I'm gunna have to find another book to trump that..... ;-) Best "Harry Potter" thread ever I reckon!
If you're not into the book then you don't have to discuss it, but I'm not sure why you'd want to stop others from discussing it. We're grown men who play video games so I'm kind of surprised that there's so much hostility for Potter. Part of the reason I come to Assembler is that there aren't flame posts everywhere. Why start now? Ryan....did you like it? I still have some questions about it. Seems that a lot of people do.
Ha! Don't worry Eric I am on your side. Quite funny actually that recently my oldest brother has started reading them after having given me hell about enjoying them. For the record he read the first 4 back to back like they crack. So yeah potter-haters aside - we sometimes play kids games. F em I reckon the ending is meant to be open. You have a couple of potential solutions/explanations. Firstly potter was carrying (or a metre from the ring and cloak) all the hallows. The elder wand had lost its power because it was malfoys wand that killed the D-man. And Voldy had not killed Malfoy. Thus death could be challenged and beaten - like in the fairy tale. The station was something like the space where ghosts choose to come back or not. Harry could go back to a proper body cos of his effective horcrux in Volders. All guesses, but it is good to have some mystery. Keeps the books alive a bit more. Overall I really enjoyed it, great story that I would give to my kids to read.
I've never really understood why some become ghosts and others don't... Is it always a choice? JKR apparently said that Voldemort didn't have a choice, he simply can't. Apparenly she mentioned the reason in a previous book but I don't remember... And I've never thought of Harry Potter as being a kids book. Come to think of it there's really no way a kid could even understand it. Most people who read it can't digest and understand all of it. It's just impossible. The story involves thousands and years and hundreds of characters. Sometimes the stories unfold due to actions from hundreds of years ago mixing with choices people make present day. The sheer size of it all really is amazing when you start to put it all together. Kids can understand the basics of it, the actions, the results, etc, but there's no way they can really comprehend the scope of it all. Maybe that's why the books are so popular, it appeals to both kids and adults on different levels.
I've yet to finish it (time constraints) Though i do agree, I was equally surprised that a forum such as this would harbor so many "potter-haters" It's a good read which so far has finally connected all the dot's between the books, though i can't help but keep thinking the plot line in this latest book seems similar to that of a WWII history book 0_o
You can say that about anything though, I watch a lot of kids TV with my son and there's so much in there that's way above a childs level of understanding and clearly aimed at humouring the parents. Not to be rude but this is exactly the same thing, but given some form of validity because it's sold in a hardback and is fashionable. Yes it get's people reading, but it doesn't get any extra validity than someone sat around reading the afformentioned Tiger who came to tea. Good on people for reading more, but don't fool yourselves into thinking it's anything other than a book aimed at mid-teens. "But Dobby get's a knife in his chest!" Yeah in the Tiger who came to tea, the tiger "drinks all of daddies beer", clearly endorsing the consumption of alcohol, so it must be aimed at adults, using the same reasoning.
Sorry if I offended anyone with my posts, but please be aware that I am not a "Potter Hater", nor have I "flamed" anyone so please do not claim so. I saw an opportunity to post something which I thought was funny and at the very least make you smile, but didn't realise that it would generate such upset or nasty comments aimed back at me. I'll say no more.......
I was thinking the same thing about cartoons. You watch them when you're older and think, "Did they really just say that?" heh. But I think with Potter you can get into it on a very superficial way if you want or you can go deeper into the history and story if you want. People probably like it for a lot of different reasons. Personally, Potter and Ron annoyed me. I didn't really care for longer parts of the book where it was just focused on the kids. I was more interested in the older characters and the history they had together. Some of the dialogue between the students got a little boring. Hagrid also got old, and some of the conflict seemed a bit forced through kind of stupid actions or decisions by the characters. That's where it did seem too much like a kids book. Things like Sirius Black, Azkaban, Aurors, Bellatrix Lestrange, Hogwarts, etc were really interesting to me.
heh no problem jdc. I had just read the other thread when I saw your comments and thought we were heading in that direction again...
