Damn, this freakin' level is Freakin' laser-ville, population bipolar ship and a weird-ass battle sattellite! Has anyone ever dodged everything? I know it has a thing that lets you see how to beat certain levels in training or whatever, but they won't even show up for levels I did beat. :smt067
    How do I do that?

  2. I'm not sure what the criteria is for getting levels to show in training - I thought just completing them unlocked the level. Shows how much I use training mode - I just try and plow through until credits are exhausted and then start over again.

Anyways, what's the problem you're having - is it at the boss? Aside from him, I though level 4 wasn't that bad - not as fugging nuts as the start of 3, and not the utter hellhole that 5 is. BTW, what difficulty are you playing on?

Im playing it on normal, and I am having trouble with the first part on level 4, when the sattlelite thing shoots lasers at 360 Degrees. Im not talking about the level 3 boss, either, I'm talking about that 'thing' that is near the beginning of 4. I might take some pics to show what I mean.
I do good on everything else, though!

1st level-Kill almost everything and not die once.

2nd level-Maybe die once or twice in the basement part and the boss.
3rd level-Lose maybe 3-4 lives during this mission on the senond part, plus I cant kill the boss in time. I usually ALMOST kill it, though. :angry
4th level-Damn laser sattlelite thing hands my ass to me and destroys the rest of my lives...! :angry
    5th level-Sounds tuff.

    Thats it, bro.

  4. Hmm... I guess I'm not quite remembering that part - let me fire it up and jog my memory. :-D

EDIT: Oh, duh, THAT goddamn rotating satellite thingie. Believe it or not, I find it's easiest to stay inside of the barriers - the same area where all the little enemy guys are. The white and black waves coming from the center move in opposite directions, and you should be able to follow one wave to the left edge of the screen, find a spot to change colors and then ride back up on the other color. Just make sure you haven't killed any little bastards when you change from one color to the next - I HATE Normal and Hard mode's stupid color dropping. As if the game wasn't difficult enough. :angry :smt067

Hope that is of some help...

That parts real hard. I used to get killed by my own fire, if I accidentally switched. I'm going to try again. Thanks for your help.
Is Radiant Silvergun like this game or is it different?
I am thinking of getting it, someday.

Pretty different, there's no colour scheme for one thing and plenty of advanced weapon modes. I can't profess to be an expert though, I've only played it a few times on a mate's saturn. One of those games I'll get around to eventually.

I was so proud when I got to level 3 the other day, so don't feel too bad. I *really* have to buy this one for Dreamcast (I'm trying to sell the Gamecube).

Why do you want to sell your Gamecube?

  9. The thing that bugged me about the Gamecube version is Atari's unwillingness to translate in-game text. You know the parts where the black bar appears on the left side of the screen, showing you the chapter title and the Ikaruga logo? Yeah, there's supposed to be a block of Japanese text there, but Atari just decided to drop it entirely instead of try and translate it. The Gamecube version DID have that cool online ranking mode, and what a prize for the winner:

    Plus an Ikaruga promo poster!

Radiant Silvergun is almost totally different in its gameplay. For one, your ship has 6 weapons that you start out with - one for each Saturn button, plus the Radiant Sword, which can absorb enemy fire and turns into a smart-bomb of sorts when you absorb enough. The black and white polarity thing is gone - you ship is just one color, although enemies come in blue, red, or yellow colors, and you can do similar chains of kills based on the color of the ships.
Also, your weapons level up through playing - creating enough chains (or something like that) will level up the weapon you used, making it more powerful. You can save your game data so that each time you play, you can start from the first level, but with your weapons at their powered up state.
Bosses also are a bit different than Ikaruga. While you can still win by default on the time out, most bosses are composed of multiple parts. You can either destroy the core and be done with the entire boss at once, or take them apart piece-by-piece for the perfect boss destroy bonus.

The game is a lot of fun, but I'm not sure if it's worth the $150 price tag it commonly carries. If you can find it for cheaper, I'd definately recommend picking it up, but paying market value for it - well, it's your call. Personally, I find Sin And Punishment and Ikaruga to be a better value than RS at it's current price. If you have an import-capable N64, I'd highly recommend getting S&P, especially now that the prices seem to be dropping a bit on it.
