Has anyone ever heard of these Korean versions of a console game for PC?

Years ago, I found on mercadolivre someone was selling supposed Pc versions of console games, they were from korea, I decided to see on ebay and found a few of them.

Today I was searching on ML for Blood Roar then I ve found the same/another seller was selling the Blood Roar 1 and 2 for PC, then it just reminded me of Rival Schools that I've found on ebay.

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/PC-GAME-CAPCOM-Rival-Schools-1-2-United-Fate-NEW-/321356831013

Does anyone know what they actually are? A legit port or just some unofficial emulation being sold in a jewel case?

WOW! they look pretty awesome! :) from the looks of things i'm guessing two (Resident Evil 2 & maybe 1 directors cut) are the official ones on PC while Biohazard 3 (Japanese version of course) is probably using an unofficial PSX emulator since it mentions "You can play continue to the end, But If you once end game, You should play from start. (NOT SAVE, Only Continue)" which is a huge shame or possibly if there's a Save State option on the emulator then you might come off lucky ;)

They're just repackaged emulators with ROMs. Nothing special at all I'm afraid. There's hundreds of these in Korea.

oh, well i guess it's for those who don't/didn't own a PlayStation 1 back in the day considering the fact alot of Korean gamers were only PC gamers i think or it's just more popular down there.

Yea, I would stay away from these. They usually sell for like $1-$2 here in Korea. Some maybe around $5. Like Yakumo said, these are usually just emulators on a disc. On top of that, some are so old that they wont even load on your computer if you have a modern operating system.

There are some exceptions though. I'm pretty sure Capcom released some official PC versions of games. I know I have a PC version of Rockman X7 in a big box. These were released under the name "KOKO CAPCOM"

These emulator rom disks are pretty common in China as well.

It's really confusing as they are surely unofficial, but all of them bear the company's name, like Capcom, SNK etc. As Capcom is present in Korea it is surprising they would need pirates of their games like this??

That's because some of them are official. All of the capcom ones I have at home are official. I can't say about the snk ones since I've never owned or played any of them.

There is a handful of interesting, actual ports from PSX to PC from Korea. Vandal Hearts, Zutto Issho, Digimon World, a few Langrisser games... I also think the Korean version of Grandia 2 is a different port (and released earlier than the one by Ubi Soft).

...because it's illegal. They violate copyright laws, and the US is more strict than Korea or China.

You have a point there, plus the whole Bleem! fisaco thingy during that time period BUT.. that's not to say if they CAN port the games to PC officially with permission.

And it did happen. I have Megaman X4, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Resident Evil 2 & 3, Megaman Legends, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid...and San Francisco Rush was going to be released. These games didn't sell all that well for PC but Capcom has continued to support the PC versions of console games, i.e. almost every Resident Evil game comes out for PC at the same time.

Maybe you just weren't paying attention to PC titles at the time, but a LOT of PlayStation games got a PC release as well in the US.

Yeah i already knew Final Fanasty 7 & Tomb Raider had PC ports and i kinda did remembered Resident Evil 1 & 2 being released on PC Win 98. A couple of Capcom games i'd admit never know it came out on PC till years later. Heart of Darkness was another PS1 game i remember got ported as well too and probably many others i've forgotten.
