Ok I play Oblivion a lot. Last time I played though the loading was horrible. It would literally take five minutes to load up and would freeze for a moment when moving, opening menus, ect. I tried clearing the cache but it was a no-go. I then decided to take the disc out to clean it. Upon looking at it I noticed the disc was covered with small dots (and one small fingerprint) that looked liked waterspots. I've tried cleaning it but nothing removes them. The only conclusion I can come to is that these spots are under the surface and the heat from the 360 is causing the disk to separate. Has anyone heard of anything like this happening elsewhere?
yep, my madden 06 did this. It still played okay, although I probably didn't play it long enough for problems to pop up. I'd rather it do this, since it's faulty, than have the shitty 360 actually crack disks like I've had happen.
The 360 does get hot enough to melt discs my first 360 the discs would come out very warm 2nd one no issues at all.
I don't think it has to do with disc rot from the factory. When discs run in my "new" 360 they get noticeably hot even after a short period. Not enough to burn but I think enough to warm the adhesive with prolonged exposure to it and cause problems. I have no way to prove this though since I haven't put nearly as many hours on my other discs as this one.
Good... Better to have it red-ring sooner rather than later. Hopefully MS will wise up and start sending out the new 65nm systems to cut down on multiple replacements. It is pretty bad when the UPS driver tells you about the guy they've delivered 5 systems to so far as you're signing for your package.
You could get one of those Nyko intercooler things. Supposively they can drop the internal temperature by something like 7 degrees C. I'd get one but I'm just trying to hold out for the 65nm chips.
I used to have that problem with a CD-ROM about 10 years ago and then with a friend's PSX. They used to get damn hot, and in some moment (in both cases the CD units weren't working well) the disc used to stop spinning with the laser still on, you can imagine what happens next...
