Crowdfunding "platforms" (really nothing more than vanilla site with projects on it) are a dime a dozen, but now there are some meant only for games Has anyone here donated to some game project in one of those? I'm hesitant, a guy from work was one of the thousands that donated money to diaspora, that open source facebook clone. So the guys were asking for $25,000 but got $200,000 yet somehow they havent delivered shit (I heard there's a buggy closed alpha and little else) but they need more money: that guy told me about this after receiving an email from the diaspora team (4 guys, no joke) asking him for $25 How 4 guys blow through $200K in a year or so I have no idea, but I would like to hear if game projects on these specialized sites were actually released as promised
They blow 200k by using it as their salary. 50k divided by 4 guys = covers basic living standards for a year and then some. 200k means they get so distracted pissing the money up the wall that they have nothing left to pay the bills and no time to continue the project. The plea for more money is probably to get them back on track but chances are they may just ride the gravy train. Either way I'm not a big fan of these sorts of projects - too much money gets lost in management when really all the guys need to do is meet their financial commitments for food and housing - or get a job.
You dont have to give them all your money, you can donate just $5 If the guys behind that Halflife remake on source asked for some help I would give some money (again, nothing crazy) as long as they promise to complete the game in a realistic timeframe Been waiting for ages for that to come out...
