I was cleaning my new Jasper console today and noticed that the underside of the motherboard had pads for some more ram, pretty much the same story as the original xbox, free pads all other components are there (SMD caps).. so If someone was to plop some more ram in and the system was either jtag'd or r-jtag and running say Linux or something, would the extra ram show?? How much ram do XDKS and the like have??
As I recall there were both 256MB and 512MB revisions of the Jasper board, so probably the board will accept another 256MB, but probably won't do anything useful with it.
Good luck trying. If you happen to put the extra ram correctly either the kernel/HV will detect that "RAM is different than expected" and you will have 3 red lights or simply nothing will happen.
it might actually work as the devkit have 1gb of RAM, but you won't really benefit from even if you successfully boot
Yes but you fail to account that devkits have a completely different kernel which is actually made to use that much RAM. It's like the old classic XBOXes. Just putting the RAM in would not cause it to use the extra RAM. You had to flash the BOOT ROM too with one which would use all the RAM. (like Xecuter2 for example)
Yep. I've used a patcher to enable 128mb of RAM on the original XBox for retail games and it really doesn't seem to do anything. What I'd love to do is try to modify games like Halo 2 Killtrocity to see if the additional RAM can reduce/remove random crashes that appear to be memory based. As for the 360 unless you're going to do dev it really doesn't help much. Even MAME is quite happy with 512mb of RAM.
