Has CFW, Homebrew and Other Hacks Made You Buy A System You Were Never Interested In?

For me it isn't a matter of "when it gets hacked I'll buy it" but having it moddable is a huge bonus to me. I got a Wii U for Christmas and I wouldn't have bought one until it was hacked and/or cheaper mainly due to the fact I want to hack my games, play betas/leaks, whatever. Given my laptop and desktop machines are quite powerful I don't need a console for emulation purposes anymore and I can hook my laptop, desktop, phone, and tablet to a 50" HDTV if I want to negating the need for XBMC but I still like using it anyway. Something about having a dedicated box that plays XBox games is rather nice plus my living room TV is a 32" Sony Trinitron that doesn't do 480p. A raspberry pi might be better off but only when I have 1080i capabilities.

Most people who say this crap just want to pirate games.

 

I'll admit that the only reason I've hacked consoles (other than for XBMC on the original Xbox) is for piracy, whether it be through emulation or of the current console's titles. Anyone who says stuff about using them for homebrew will be talking crap 99% of the time. The argument about whether I am personally hurting console manufacturers or game developers doesn't really come into it, as I could probably count the brand new games I've bought over the past decade on the fingers of both hands, although second hand games are another "evil" the industry's trying to get rid of. I have bought some more "new" games from CEX over that time, but they'd either have been stolen or given to journalists/employees for free.

When the Wii got hacked, and Super Smash Bros Brawl was on the way I was pretty excited for the mods involved and funny thing was that game had an exploit in its self lol. Think there was a total of two first party Nintendo titles that had exploits. Another reason why I like CFW or hacks if for translations patches too.

I'm not one for piracy as such as I end up buying the games anyway. The funny thing with piracy is, what's the difference if I borrow my friend's game or buy it used. So the whole idea of "piracy ruins developers and manufacturers is just an easy target" when there's other factors...

 

yes i would say for me it would be the xbox original but once i started playing around with the many mods i fell in love with that old system now one of my fav's
