I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, it's not THAT obscure, but it is an unlicensed Chinese(?) Famicom game, which I have only seen the ROM of, and never out in the wild. It is also lacking any kind of decent information online (this could be due to the fact that any sites which contain info, are probably using Kanji scripts, and so don't pop up on google when you type it in English). Also mistyped as "Wang Di" and "Hwang Di". Most downloads I've seen have it listed as Huang Di, which fits in with the spelling for China's Yellow Emperor (I think so anyway, I've not read much on that side of things). It was apparently developed by Asder, who also made Famiclone systems. Anyone have any info on the game? Year it was released perhaps? Anyone seen it in the wild? It's always proved an enigma for me, partially because it's one of my favourite FC games, made even more interesting by the fact that it was unlicensed! Quite possibly the best unlicensed FC game I've ever played, most others tend to be very sloppy, but this has the professional quality of a top 8-bit development house. Also, in a sea of generic FC platformers, this has a unique styling to it. It feels fresh. Any info, or is this one of those games where the info will be lost to time?
Asder seems to have a selection of games developed by NTDEC/Megasoft...could it be that this game is also from NTDEC/Megasoft? There are some lesser known unlicensed Famicom and NES titles from Megasoft that are also of reasonable quality, so they're not all crappy either
Interesting, care to list some of these Megasoft titles? I may feel like going on a "hunt". Actually, any online resources regarding Asder would be great.
http://www.asder.com.tw/main.html Some of the NES MegaSoft titles I was speaking of are: Skate Boy Sea of Dreamland Go! Benny! Destroyer Tank Thunder Warrior They also developed the games on the Caltron/Myriad/etc 6-in-1 cartridge (Balloon Monster, Cosmos Cop, Adam & Eve, Bookyman, Magic Carpet, and Porter).
Cheers for that. Have you ever seen Huang Di in the wild? Do you know how much it might go for, say on eBay?
Sorry to bring back this old thread. To answer your question, yes I've seen Huang Di in cart format but it's vary hard to find. All NTDEC original games are tough to find. I've seen it with a yellow and a blue case (see pics). The game was developed by Asder and published by NTDEC. The ID# is CN-29. Later releases (CN-20 - CN-29) are better quality games. Here are all games published by NTDEC : CN-01 Fighting Hero CN-02 Hit Marmot CN-03 Magic Block CN-04 Pokey CN-05 Balloon Monster CN-06 Magic Carpet 1001 CN-07 War in the Gulf CN-08 Bookyman CN-09 Cosmos Cop CN-10 ???
