Ok this is simple. Either would be running 8gb ram

just want to know what would be the better option

    AMD FX-6300

    Intel I5-660

I am strictly stuck with one of these processors. Which one would be better and why?

    Thank You!!

You're best with Intel processors since they're the most compatible.

What work are you trying to do? Video conversion? PC Gaming?

FX6300. The 1st gen Core iX series is getting very old and soon will be completely obsolete.

If possible, I'd say go with ASSEMbler's suggestion and wait for AMD's Zen processors later this year (hopefully).

If you must stick with either of those two listed, go with the FX 6300. The i5 660 is so old as to have very few advantages over the 6300 (namely, higher operating temperature and slightly better single-threaded performance in some applications). I don't normally like these types of sites but they make it easier to compare features between CPUs: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-660-vs-AMD-FX-6300

I'd ask what you'd be using it for, but with such limited options I know I would pick the FX 6300. It has higher multi-threaded performance, way more modern instruction set support (according to that link) and is overclockable (if you're into that). Full disclosure: I love AMD as a company but own an i7 4790 as my main desktop CPU.

Forgot all about this post. I ended up grabbing my buddies old rig. i7-920 with 24gb ram for a hundred. Also including 2 MSI R6950 Twin Frzr 2gb cards in crossfire.

That's awesome value. Old yet you get way way more performance for just $100.

I'd kill for that setup. With me having paid $100 for just a Dual Core Pentium processor and a motherboard... =P

I7 920's are still decent for gaming on medium/high together with those cards.
Great value/quality rate if i must say for 100 USD, a steal tbh.
