ok, so normally when I plug in a hdmi cable in my laptop, it automatically appears on my hdtv & the laptop screen goes to sleep. as of just now it doesn't anymore, I get the same (dual) screen on both devices, but the laptop screen doesn't automatically goes to sleep anymore. I really can't remember how I've done it (or if this happened as a standard setting) coz I've had the bloody thing for a few years now. also closing the lip is NOT an option anymore, as one of its hinges is broken. I need it get it to shutting down the laptop screen on connecting the hdmi cable again. I've looked around on the web a bit, but apart from messing with the nvidia panel, this has gotten me nowhere. suggestions?? (I really have no need to wath my movies on 2 screens at the same time plus, its energy consuming)
There should be a function key you can hold down, then press the key that has a single or 2 little monitors next to each other on it. Without knowing the model of laptop, I couldnt tell you which key. But there should be a picture on there. Worst case, take a picture of your keyboard and I will circle them.
You should also be able to do this (assuming you're using Windows XP; not sure about Windoes 7) from within Windows Display Properties > Settings; where you can also set the resolution (or at least you can when using VGA... never tried with HDMI).
its an hp presario cq 70 105 eb I just tried all my F-keys & nothing happened its running Vista btw, also I didn't do any updates of any kind today, it just stopped working
ok, got it to work manually. a combination of the F4 & some messing with the nvidia settings did it. now I'm still wondering why it doesn't switch automatically anymore when I plug in the hdmi cable... thanks guys
Could be any number of reasons. Maybe it was a feature taken out when you upgraded the video drivers?
