ok, so normally when I plug in a hdmi cable in my laptop, it automatically appears on my hdtv & the laptop screen goes to sleep. as of just now it doesn't anymore, I get the same (dual) screen on both devices, but the laptop screen doesn't automatically goes to sleep anymore. I really can't remember how I've done it (or if this happened as a standard setting) coz I've had the bloody thing for a few years now.

also closing the lip is NOT an option anymore, as one of its hinges is broken. I need it get it to shutting down the laptop screen on connecting the hdmi cable again.

I've looked around on the web a bit, but apart from messing with the nvidia panel, this has gotten me nowhere.

suggestions?? (I really have no need to wath my movies on 2 screens at the same time [IMG] plus, its energy consuming)

There should be a function key you can hold down, then press the key that has a single or 2 little monitors next to each other on it.

Without knowing the model of laptop, I couldnt tell you which key. But there should be a picture on there.

Worst case, take a picture of your keyboard and I will circle them.

You should also be able to do this (assuming you're using Windows XP; not sure about Windoes 7) from within Windows Display Properties > Settings; where you can also set the resolution (or at least you can when using VGA... never tried with HDMI).

Press the function key (FN key, its near the windows key normally) and F4 and it should work.

ok, got it to work manually. a combination of the F4 & some messing with the nvidia settings did it.
now I'm still wondering why it doesn't switch automatically anymore when I plug in the hdmi cable...

    thanks guys

Could be any number of reasons. Maybe it was a feature taken out when you upgraded the video drivers?

Video driver most likely ,though it could be that preferences had an error.
