In advance I apologise if this is the wrong place for this problem. I've been gathering a pretty decent collection of PC games over the past year, about half of them are from 2000-2003 and obviously were intended for Windows XP. Most of them run on my Windows 7 PC just fine, but a couple of them don't, such as Beam Breakers. Every time I try to change game settings and sometimes when I start a new game it'll crash to desktop. I've tried compatibility modes and running as administrator, but I'll be honest, this area isn't my forte. Can anyone help a dude out here?
Note that Windows XP was released in 2001. Any game developer would not likely have been seeing if their game was working on beta or preview versions of Windows XP, so you can pretty much figure that any games released in 2000-2002 (at least) were likely designed to run on Windows 98/ME. Don't forget to search for any patches, games from that period often had a patch to help with compatibility with XP.
This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks man. Looking forward to some Fifth Element style racing now.
For running older games on PCs, or even newer games on PCs, whether the PC is old or new, you should always try vogons (Very Old Games On New Systems), as they are very knowledgeable about Windows/DOS/DOSBox and getting games to run on them. http://www.vogons.org/ and more good sites for problematic games are: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Home http://www.play-old-pc-games.com/ http://www.wsgf.org/
