I've been having a tough time ripping my PS1 games. I started using imgburn since I like to use the .bin/.cue format when creating a disc. I use the MD5_and_SHA_Checksum_Utility to help pull md5 data and match each image up the data on redump.org. I started with one disc and noticed my rips where not matching up. So I moved to another desktop and started ripping there. Some of the games I was having trouble with started to rip fine on the new desktop but after a few more discs in I started getting mismatches again. I moved on from imgburn and started using Alcohol 120%. Used the PlayStation profile and saved the images in .CCD format. Again it was smooth sailing and then a brick wall. A couple of games I am having trouble with are Breath of Fire III and Resident Evil Director's Cut Dual Shock Version. When I check the BoF redump two different md5 checksum data are given. So for these games I decided to use CDmage and check my images for corruption. Any disc that gives me a matching md5 on redump would scan in fine with CDmage and report back no errors. As a last effort. I went back to my original machine I started creating my rips on and added an old Plextor PX-W8432T and went with Clone CD software. I followed this guide popped in Breath of Fire III and had the software create a .cue sheet as well. Not knowing how to match the md5 data on redump for BoF III I went right to CDmage and when I scanned the image using the .cue file it returned no errors. I then scanned the .CCD file with CDmage and it returned 150 errors. So now I'm just confused with no idea where to go from here. I knew these types of disc can be tricky to rip if you are aiming for perfect rips but didn't expect so many headaches. TLDR: 1.) Created PS1 rips with imgburn on PC 1 and failed. 2.) Went to PC 2 and started getting good rips, then it started to fail again. Still using imgburn. 3.) Moved to Alcohol 120% got some good rips with the PlayStation profile soon after more bad rips. 4.) Went back to 1st PC, added Plextor drive, used CloneCD ,ripped troublesome game(BoF III), checked with CDMage and returned a good cue file but a bad CCD file. 5.) I'm stuck, frustrated and have no clue how to continue. Discs are clean with minor surface scratches. Checked them with a bright light for any rot and didn't notice anything strange. Another odd thing I ran into was trying to rip Breath of Fire IV. Since I wasn't sure how to check this title because of the two md5 checksum data I saw on redump. I went straight to CDmage. Ripped with imgburn (.bin/.cue) and Alcohol 120% (.ccd/.img/.sub.). Both returned the exact same md5 data and CDmage found no corruption. The only reference data I could find was 823863188600d584a980e56acf5345b4 on the iso zone. This images format was ripped in .bin/.cue. My md5 checksum began with a 9 something something. Probably irrelevant and unreliable data but I guess ripping PS1 games while staying up until the we hours of the morning made me a bit loony.
Some games have anti-piracy protection and other stuff. I think recently somebody managed to decode the Raiden Collection.
I think I'm going to just rip my games and check them with CDMage and then go no further. Then figure out why some of my images still have errors and try other formats.
Just wanted to chime in and say that I went ahead and created the remainder of my rips using the .bin / .cue format. Everything works fine in the emulators I tested. I decided to test one of my rips on an actually PS1 and it worked great. BoF III the game that gave me the most issues with errors in CDMage gave off the same errors with a "known good" redump image I found online. So I decided it just wasn't worth matching my images up anymore and to just rip them as I saw fit.
