The detail about Propeller Arena sounds interesting. A "shocking" detail sounds like they may have decided against online functionality for the PAL version. Either that or they had pressed games ready to ship out to retailers.

No online play in the PAL version wouldn't surprise me at all. PAL Daytona 2001 and Outtrigger (oh and Unreal tournament) are just a painful memory.

sorry arnold, jetfuzion, i'm not the guy who hangs out 24/7 out in assembler forums. once a day is enough for me - i guess you understand that. so please, no hard feelings for me replying exactly 1 day later, i'm just human. Yup you guessed it right, Propeller Arena is simply missing the online-feature and the button for it in the main menue.

seems like PAL-region was never considered to play this online, sad but true, same as outtrigger, daytona 2001 and unreal tournament, as someone mentioned already. fun thing is that the preview build we played already had everything unlocked, so no need for a save-game for the 2 extra planes and 2 extra maps.

i didnt do a video (really, i wouldnt have known how to ask him, he had already been friendly enough to offer me this opportunity) or take pictures, since this was more like a friendly-thing and not some "invite a fan of dreamcast-relics" stuff... (at least i tried my best not to make it seem like that... :D)

he has a huge pile of GD-Rs which he saved when the dreamcast went down worldwide. among these the self-running E3-Demo of ecco the dolphin featuring some levels and background music that didnt make it in the final game, but besides this, the system disc, a multiregion dreamcast, propeller arena and dee dee planet he didnt have any other stuff except for early builds of games, betas ...

Sorry for my comments earlier, I really got the impression you were dragging this out a bit - I was wrong and I apologise, my mistake.

How did the multi-region Dreamcast work? Was it controlled by a switch or did it automatically select the correct region?

honestly i think he just inserted the system disc and after it loaded he inserted dee dee planet.

we didnt play any retail games just GD-Rs and i think once you boot these with the system disc, region wont matter (if GD-R betas and codes are even regionalized, which i'd rather dont think).

but i think it doesnt have a switch (although i didnt see the back side of it), which would be also more convenient

Ah, OK. I figured that's what it must have been. I just didn't know if it was through GD-Rs or if he had also run through a few retail releases from different regions.

Since it was a GD-R, when the IP.BIN was created, they most likely just checked all of the region boxes in the ip application to make the game itself region free.

was there ever a official multiregion dreamcast acquired by someone here? i was really surprised when he told me that this was done officially by sega

Nice to know there's still a handful of DC grails that could still be released potentially.

    Nice to revisit this thread....

Some years later, I wonder if chocomarker1 friend would consider selling some of his stuff, or even digital copies of it... it's a shame chocomarker1 has not been online here since last year...
