Hi All, I have a Megadrive 1 PAL with the 60/50 switch and Language Switch. I got an Everdrive MD and Street Fighter 2 was flashed on the cart and it would load etc... since then I cant get any other games to work. I have tried a 2 different brand new SD Cards and I have tried using Genny 3 mode, formatting the card etc.. I think that I may have some strange roms and I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a specific rom to try that I can track down (or PM me a link ) I think this is the last place for me to look! Ta
send yours cart back, if two different(!) SD cards does not work. there is not a lot of possible reasons: 1) defective cart 2) defective system (hello fans of modding) 3) bad rom or not unzipped rom 4) possible that some sd cards can be incompatible with everdrive, but usually it is about noname crap only
oh, and i forget that problems is possible if you put a lot of files/dirs in your root dir. more than 100, for example, or not leave any free space on the card
I tried just putting 2 roms on to test and i cant seem to get them to work. I dont understand all the coding that the roms use (i know that J,U,E means Jap Euro USA but I dont know what all the [!] [h1] [a] (f) stuff means) can someone call out a specific rom or PM me a DL link so I can see if it is the cart or the ROM files. FYI I got all my roms from a Torrent that had 2.13GB of games including 32x and has multiple versions of the same game with all these different comments.
[f] means fixed, usually these mean they remove regional lockouts or other protections. [!] is supposed to mean the dump is verified to be correct to the original ROM chip. [a] means alternate version. [h] means a hacked version. Hacks could be many things, such as modifying the number of available lives. For testing if the EverDrive works, use a [!] marked game such a "Sonic The Hedgehog (JUE) [!]" or something like that. (JUE) means its coded for all regions.
Thanks for that Krikzz emailed me a file to try and it worked. So, i think that for whatever reason I have a poor collection of roms. could anyone reccomend a place to find a collection of roms to use with the everdrive? Also, does having the rom in a .zip folder make a difference
Long time ago krikzz wrote here this page for roms -->http://emu-russia.net/en/roms/ I hope it be useful.
GoodGen is your best bet. It's a long project to go through and find the apppropriate ROM for each game, but worth it. Also keep in mind that a few things aren't in that collection (not counting Pier Solar, the translated SFT games, and so forth, which shouldn't be circulating in any form). Yes, you absolutely MUST unzip the ROMs. If you've been leaving them zipped all this time, I'm afraid you've been doing the equivalent of taking vacation pictures with your lens cap on!
My cart cant flash games to my ever drive but works on my other system's. The mega drive that it dont work on is my va4 hd model must be a fault with the console as it works on all my other systems.
Have you tried flashing a ROM when the console is set to it's original PAL settings? I.e. Language switch set to English (although the language switch setting shouldn't make any difference) and 50Hz/60Hz switch set to PAL (50Hz)? The reason I ask is because I recently purchased a Everdrive MD and have a modded VA4 Mega Drive 1, the same as you, and every time I attempted to flash a ROM with the 60Hz switch activated it would flash slowly/at an inconsistent rate and boot to a red screen or end up getting a "prog. error 120" during the flashing process. I was going to make on post on here for help but was hesitant since I have a modded console, and the stance seems to be "if you have a modded/clone console, it's your problem", which I fully agree with by the way, since the Everdrive wasn't designed for these consoles/conditions and it would be very difficult to troubleshoot. But playing unoptimised PAL games and having the giant PAL borders is criminal. ;-) It took me quite a while to figure the problem was being caused by the console running in NTSC, however "Genny3 Mode" allows me to flash ROMs in 60Hz mode in my case, so maybe you're having a similar issue. I'm guessing the reason this happens to PAL consoles in 60Hz mode is something to do with the PAL Mega Drive CPU running at a slightly slower clock speed to the NTSC consoles (7.61MHz as opposed to 7.67MHz), then again I could be completely wrong. Anyway, I hope this helps your situation, if not I at least hope the information is useful to anyone else with modded PAL consoles having the same issue I had. Edit: Oops, I thought the previous poster was the thread starter, oh well I still hope this is helps someone.
