You probably need to read the chip, note the calibration value, load the hex, enter the calibration value by pressing "CALIB" and then program it.

If you have problem with calib value use Mayumi HEX, it doesn't use internal osc...

However, you always need to write exact OSCAL value. But in case you can not recupare the default value (maybe you have overwrited it) and will have to put one at random, I recommended mayumi hex code ;)

ok got a bit further today, I am using a different version of microburn that the bay seller sent me (not sure if this makes a difference) and I am clicking yes to the change config prompt. I get a progress bar on 'programming' then it gives me:

I only have 2 more chips left, I understand these are use once? I am going to order some rewritable ones. Thanks for replies so far :)

Give IC Prog 1.6c a try if microburn doesn't work out. apparently it works like a champ (Don't use regular 1.6)

*Edit* There's been success with mm3 using ic prog 1.6c

Buy some 12c629 - the mm3 code was ported and released recently and they are rewriteable. I have used them without issue.

WoW! thanks for the sharing Bad_Ad84! ;)
I've never haved any trouble with my 12F508\9 :/ (I've tested all HEX on all PAL console). Wich problem you had?
Theoretically a program written for C series sould work without any problem with E and F series..

Yeah, I know it should work and I didnt say it doesnt above. I just dont recommend anything I have not gotten working myself.

But, I imagine I just need to add a 100nf decoupling cap, this has solved issues with a bunch of consoles I have modded recently. Basically it fails the ID check and says "please insert a PS1 game". Adding a cap and works fine, I imagine I was unlucky with the console I tested the 12F509 on and it was one that needed the cap.

But either way, the 12F629 are cheaper for me to buy - so I will carry on using those for the time being.

You get that error if you set the Fuse to protect, test it and see if it works

OK IC prog would not let me choose a com port apart from 1-4 (my programmer is on com 6)

I went back to microburn and tried disabling the fuse protect and it worked :) so have managed to program the last 2 chips successfully.

Many thanks to everyone who helped!
