As some people know, a fan released a DC English version of Shenmue II with full audio quality a few years ago. It requires special CD-Rs to burn due to file size. I had to order 99 min discs from China and the batch turned out to be defective. My 100 min discs from the UK showed up today and I'm having the same problem burning it. I've tried the right settings with 3 different programs on 2 different computers. My model 1 DC just makes ugly clicking noises and my model 0 just sits on the spiral screen while trying to load the disc.

I asked all over the internet, including the sources, and no one is answering me. I'm a passionate Shenmue fan and I was really looking forward to this - I'm crushed. Can someone please help me figure this out? I have 3 discs left which is just enough because the 4th one can work on a 80 min disc.

    "CED - 8083B"

They both have the same model number but look different... how do I figure out which one is the same as what he's mentioning?

    And, yes, no errors.

Never mind, I figured it out. The FW number. Looks like the 2nd link is the right one.

Thank you. You're my hero if this works.

If they are Media range 100min 900mb CD-R's don't count on it. I bought 250 for rips I was doing for RDC a few years ago and all I get are clicks. Luckily I bought a few hundred 870mb disc before they turned crap. Sony Optiarc drives have a VERY high compatibility with large media CDR disc.

Those are exactly what I bought... damn it, I got 2 bad batches of discs?

What are my other options? I was just about to order a drive and your post made me stop.

Also Raziel... I'd literally be willing to purchase some blanks or a burned copy of it. I'm that passionate about Shenmue, I need this. If you or anyone on here would sell some, please.

Since you probably dont want to use the 80 min rips, you could wait a bit and see if Deunan opens up more orders for his GDEMU as the 99 min rips work fine on it on an SD card:
    http://gdemu.wordpress.com/
There are some other competing projects which you can read about here, but none are finished as of yet:
    http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...e-GD-ROM-emulation-happen-quot-Facebook-group

There is the old SD card method and new ide method both with dreamshell, but not sure if they are compatible with the game you are trying to run.
    edit:
looks like shenmue 2 is not compatable with the sd card on dreamshell per here so probably wont work with the ide hard drive either http://www.dc-swat.ru/forum/thread-1329.html

You really prefer the 99min discs to the 80min ones. While it was hard fitting everything on 99min with good quality, it was impossible on 80min and the voices are kinda gruff. The 99min version was a total challenge to do but the sound is pretty right. Though I'd suggest the Japanese audio with English subs for total immersive experience!

Most likely the problem with burning 99min CDs is the burner. I use a yamaha crw-f1 and it's perfect (was made especially for 99min discs), else it's a matter of luck finding a right drive. I got the banana digital cheap 99min discs and9/10 work.

Note that some Dreamcast have issues with 99min discs too (probably when they age), so even with a perfect burn it could be that the DC is the problem, find another one to test.

There's actually a dozen or two posts online about the banana cds being defective and the company has even been refunding some people. So it's multiple problems.

You are burning at lowest possible burning speed?

Where do you live? I might be able to send you a copy of the game already burnt.

I heard that, maybe the old ones are better than the new batches. Back when I released the 99min version the banana digital were the recommended ones and everyone was happy with them.

My heart just jumped out of my chest, hold on. Deep breath while it's still racing.

I live right outside Chicago. You are a good person, thank you so much.

    ^^ THAT!
i've had MASSIVE issues writing disks beyond redbook standards/capacity, not just shenmue 2 but any game that wasn't made to fit a 700m disk. (downsampled..oh dear)
gave up on using backup disks beyond 700m, even if they somehow worked, the noises coming from the gdi assembly was terrifying.
in fact, i'll NOT risk any of my dreamcasts any more (they're put away unless dumping gdi's) on backup optical media, can't wait for a hdd spoof to hit the market in a polished and user friendly fashion...IF?!
    ...
probably not what you want (don't blame you) but try for a version that fits 700m disks...
granted, the audio will be shit (downsampled) but can't knock the efforts of '???' for making an item in excess of 1g fit less of a medium.
    ...
they're an imgburn package with a custom routine for cdi/iso disk writing, google should find it? (i'm NOT linking to 'that' place, a common HTTP host) a known reviveDC member did the imgburn package specifically for this quagmire.
when using it, i was warned to ignore/disable write verify and enable buffer overrun support.
when the disks themselves wasn't being shit, it WORKED 100% without fail! (just you're kinda stabbing in the dark in the interim)
disks that exceeded 700m capacity gave me the shaft mostly, not all but enough for me to give up on using them altogether. (retail gdi/hdd spoof or NOTHING for me anymore)
my writer is a samsung/toshiba collaboration and is without a doubt, one of the worst drives to stuff me when NOT using a standard media!
    ...
way out of my depth on this, but get the gdi dumps and try and convert them to a 700m images if possible?
never stuck my beak into it tbh, the cast just isn't worth the headache and stress when using optical medias..imo!
    all the best!

I made those releases (the japanese audio ones, then I gave tools to someone else to do the english versions), and I have to defend the 80 min one saying it's as good as it can get with such a space restriction. Over 100000 files were reencoded; it was really a huge challenge. Comparatively, the 99 min one was really easy to do. Though I can't blame anybody if they prefer silenced free speech and good quality cutscenes over my version with equally weird voices but no silent ones.

For those using gdemu, gdi is of course the way to go, eventhough only cd2 got reencoded audio on the 99min release and it's very slight, keeping the original sample rate.

    [EDIT]

The cdi compatibility dlls are on the imgburn website, completely legally. I think it's on the download page if you scroll down enough. It was actually made by padus themselves.
