    Hey guys,

So, I recently came into possession of a rare, bootleg (as of this point in time, undumped) Game Boy Color game, Terrifying 9.11 (which is, in fact, a port of Metal Slug).

    Here's a short unboxing video I did:

Anyway, I recently purchased a GB Transferer II for the direct purpose of dumping this ROM, but so far I have had no such success.

When I plug the cart into the transferrer and set it all up, GBv2.3.5 correctly identifies the game (most of the time it reads as 64K, but every now and then it will show up as 16M).

    IMG_1108.JPG

No matter what though, it *always* rips to a 64K file, which (besides being clearly too small, given the presence of the game's opening movie) gives an unknown opcode error when I attempt to open the resulting .CGB file in an emulator...

So, does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Both myself and all the Lost Media Wiki users who have been patiently waiting for me to figure this out would be most grateful to anyone who is able to shed some light on the situation.

    Thanks in advance

Pirate carts occasionally have copy protection on them. For the dump you get, what are the contents of it (using a hex editor to look)? Also, do you have a picture of the PCB?

    Ahh, I see...

Well, here is a picture of the PCB:

I dunno if you need it, (I'm totally inexperienced when it comes to dumping carts), but the text on the black chip reads:

    74HC00D
    866430Q
    Hnn9314PD

As for the contents of the 64kb .CGB file, here they are (I couldn't make head or tail of them myself).

Would I be right in thinking that is a genuine Nintendo cart that has had the EPROM chopped off and replaced?

EDIT: Nevermind, quite obviously not a genuine cart.

The 74hc00 is a common chip containing four 2 input NAND gates. That can be ignored. The blob in the middle is probably a form of MMC and that leaves the large board with large blob on the left side containing ROM. It has 44 pins and could be a 16 or 32Mbit ROM which would match your reading of 16Mb when you tried to dump it. If you know someone that has an EPROM programmer and has a mean and skill to dump safely, maybe you could check with him?

I believe I am looking at this correctly. The header of the ROM says it's only 64KByte. Is there any way to force a size in the program?

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone that has an EPROM programmer; I think I'll try reach out via the Lost Media Wiki in the hope that someone would be willing to have me send them the cart, for them to dump (or if anyone here is interested, I'll even send you the cart for keeps, so long as you dump and upload it for me).

Not that I could see (unless there is some sort of hidden option to do that).

The Retrode is able to force a size. I don't know if the game may have some other sort of copy protection, however.
