Has anyone heard from GaijinPunch in the past few days. I just wanted to make sure that he was alright. Hopefully all is well and nothing but power outtage is afflicting him.

Yeah, I'm fine. I was actually in the air for two hours (LA to Honolulu... 2nd leg, coming home from Dallas) with a nice little hangover (Bachelor Party the night before) when the pilot told us the great knews. We turned around, as all the airports on all the islands were full. As such, I've been stuck in an LA since yesterday. Scheduled to head back to the island tomorrow morning (fingers crossed).

The 39th floor is not the best place to live when the power goes out, as my wife can attest to. She says she went up and down twice throughout the day.

EDIT: Starting to think my wife is a black cat. She was in Osaka when the big Kobe Earthquake hit.

There was an Earthquake in Hawaii? Never saw anything about that on the news !! They were probably more interested in that crazed school kid that just needs a bloody good arse kicking.

6.6 on the Richter scale. Surely just as many Japaense flights, if not more, were turned back. In Japan, those planes would be arriving back in Narita around 1 or 2 AM. No NEX, and cabs back to Tokyo would be hundreds of dollars... and that's assuming they live in Tokyo.

Glad to hear that you and your wife are ok. I didn'trealize there was an earthquake either, but flipping past 20 straight news channels while looking for cartoons tends to inform you. The coverage was the same on every channel. I could hardly even tell they were different stations.

Hell, If I'd known you were gonna be in LA I could have taken you out for a night on the town. This city has the best late night resturants/bars/hooka lounges in the country.

Thanks, Hawanja. I kept thinking to myself "who the fuck lives in LA" but came up dry on names. I actually hunted down a friend from Austin of 10 years ago, but she was on a business trip in party headquarters (Utah).

To top off everything, after getting on my flight and arriving on Kauai this afternoon at 14:30 (as scheduled), United fucked up my connecting flight on Aloha. As such, I went from the terminal, to the UA counter, to the Aloha counter, and back a few times just to get a ticket. I heard such great statements as "This is a boarding pass... you can't board the plane with this." and "This one says LAX to Honolulu... I need oen that says Lihua to Honolulu". Uh... duh... the whole trip is LAX to Honolulu. Anyways, I'm home now... just still really tired and pissed off.

There was another gal in my situation that was at the counters with me. She had huge cans though, so I'm sure she got on the plane.
