I bought a tower by a buddy who had removed the jumpers from 2 HD's (40gb and 250GB) and two DVD drives. i dont have a monitor to test it at the moment but after turning it on it beeps once and turns on as normal i asked him about it including LEDS some flashed and some were solid He said from what he can remember it always started like that and the fact it doesnt beep out would suggest it turns on as normal with no problem. All the IDE's are plugged in so im wondering if it even needs the jumpers that went in.

Well you need jumpers. To make things easy, set them to CS or computer select.

You can put a jumper on and boot to bios and see how it comes up.

I'm pretty sure that's actually Cable Select, master and slave are determined by which header on the cable each drive is connected to.

Yeah, cable select. The brain is not always on all cylinders at all times.

I like to specify master and slave anyway.
