My fathers computer or rather XP had a fault yesterday so i decided to just re-install windows on an IDE drive as he wanted the SATA (xp was on)for storage, so what i done was to disconnect his backup drive (IDE) and all his USB external drives and simply connect the new HDD drive and install windows XP.

This all went fine and i shut the machine down so i could re-connect all other drives but now the drive which was his Backup is showing as having RAW filesystem and coming up as needing formatted, i'm not sure how this could have happened as all i did with the drive is disconnect it and then re-connect it.

Anyone know what i can do??

Unplug it and make sure the pins on the connectors are straight - if they get bent it can throw a wobbler.

Also, did you change the order of the hard drives? If so, your BIOS could be reading the type of drive incorrectly (Large instead of LBA, etc.)

Try setting it as cable select. It solves a lot of issues.

Cable select basically uses the cable to identify and assign each drive as master, slave.Thats kind of what it does but my description may not be that great.

Will try setting as cable select and see what happens.
