The other day I was looking a shop was carrying the Zio Eureka LX350 HD as a HDD Media Player. It looks interesting, such as being able to play back almost all video formats, as well as HD-Videos, but I hear that transferring files to it over wireless is a pain/does not work. Are there any better Media Player type HDD enclosures available which would allow for the same HD and video features while also being able to act as a network storage device wirelessly?
Check out geeks.com or ebay. You can find just the media player enclosures and you can install any size hard drive you want. There are many with USB connections, eSATA, firewire, etc.
there are plenty of enclosures which can do exactly what you want and you can fit any size HDD you want and swap it whenever also they can be cheaper than buying a proper one but still do a good job. You should be able to easily find out info online about what ones are good or not, i remember seeing somewhere a site that had decent info on what ones are best when i was thinking of getting one but i can't find it anymore.
I was just about to make a thread like this. I'm actually thinking about getting an 80 gig zune for all my music of questionable origin.
Do you intend to use it mainly as a NAS or media player (video or music)? I've got a Dvico TVIX M-4100SH and all in all I'm very satisfied with it (using it mostly for video playback). I'm streaming SD content via a wireless lan bridge but you can use one of the supported wifi usb dongles and have it connect via wireless directly and I play HD content from the internal HDD. It only has a buildin (poor) ftpd so it might not be really suitable as a NAS. There's an effort in making a hb firmware though and they already implemented a telnetd, sshd, httpd and ntpclient. A great place for info about mediaplayers is here btw.
