I have a debugging PS2 DTL-H30002 U since yesterday. I know that I have to patch disks like HDLoader or Network Access Disk to use it on this system. But how I have patch these discs? Do I have to use a special patch utility or do I have to completely re-master the disc with the Sony DVD Generator? Maybe someone has a newbie-guide for that background: I have here the PS2 Linux Kit. It runs fine on my old SCPH-30004. But I want to sell these unit and use the TEST in the future only. When I connect the BBA and the harddisk to the TEST, I cannot boot my linux. the screen turns black after loading the kernel.
Firstly, an HDD cannot be swapped from PS2 to PS2. Once the HDD works in your PS2, the only way to get the HDD to work in another PS2 is to reformat the HDD by using the HDD utility disc or LINUX PS2 disc and reinstalling it. Yes I know - pants or what but I think it's to do with piracy or something like that. To get the HDD utility disc and network access disc to load on your TEST console, you will need to use CloneCD (There are others but that is what I used) and make an image of the game disc. You then need to load the image into the Patching' software and patch it. Once that has been done, use Clone CD to burn the patched image to a blank CD-R or DVD-R and it will boot up fine. Or yes, you can use the official Sony CD/DVD generator to burn the disc if you have the software.
You can actually get a utility disc "resistant" DTL-H3000* to run them if you go through the process above? Does this apply to any PS2 utility disc including the DVD Player v2.10 disc?
actually I don't own the HD Loader. I only have the network access disk and the Linux Kit with the original sony harddisk. I used the Sony CD/DVD generator to create a new network access disk. unfortunately the disk showed only a black screen after boot-up. when I remove the network adaptor the disc works fine. maybe I have done something wrong? I think it's easier to use these patching software. Do you know how is it called and where can I get it? the other problem is my linux kit: When I power on my old ps2 I hear the harddisk spinning up. In the TEST I hear nothing. I tried to re-install Linux, but I got only a black screen.
I've run into issues with running games on a TEST off a HDD and loader. The games work fine on a retail unit, but won't on the test. However, test will allow dumping to a HDD loader drive many games what won't copy over on a retail machine.
If you want the HDD to work in your TEST you must format it on your TEST console using a patched version of the HDD utility disc. Then when you power up the TEST after you have done that, it will detect it. Yes it does - but don't think it will allow you to play DVD movies on your TEST because it won't, I've tried it! When you install the driver to your memor card it fails half way through.
i don't own the hdd utility disc. I think it's not necessary, because Linux can format the hdd. finally i patched the network access disc with the patching tool. But the disc cannot boot, when the network adaptor is connected. I also used cd/dvd generator to create a new disc, but i got the same problem - only a black screen. when i boot the patched discs without the network adaptor it works fine. I also patched some games. they are working great without any problems. same problem with the linux discs: I can boot and start the installation. but the screen turns black after formating the memory card (I think because the next step is to format the hdd). maybe the network adaptor provided with the linux kit is a special one that doesn't work with the TEST PS2 ??? or maybe the Extension Port is damaged? I think I patched the discs correctly.
You have one strange problem!! My Linux network adapter works fine in my TEST PS2... Can you get real network adapter disc to boot on the TEST station?
the real network adaptor disk boots fine without the network adaptor. when the adaptor is connected, the screen turns black - just like the patched copies. I also tried to install the linux kit without the network adaptor and the strange result is, I can continue the installation up to the hdd partition utility. when the network adaptor is connected, the installation aborts very earlier! (in the beginning after the files to the memory card are copied, the screen turns black).
I got another network adaptor today. I tested it again with the network access disk and the linux disc, but it didn't work don't know what I can do now. maybe the extension port is damaged?
Here's the patcher.... we should really sticky a link to it... http://www.internalreality.com/DiscPatcher3.zip
I have installed LINUX (PS2 ver) with no probs onto a DTL-H3010x and also DTL-H5000x. I can't remember if the older generation (DTL-H3000x) work with Linux or not...... The only DTL-H3000x console I have has a broken DVD drive... :-( Tell you what - PM me your address and I'll post you a 'patched' HDD utility disc that I know definitely works on the DTL-H3000x range of consoles. If the HDD still fails to format then I guess your PS2 expansion port might be broken....(or the HDD). You tried another one of those too?
oh that would be very nice ^^ The HDD is not broken, because it works fine on my standard PS2. I haven't tried it with another HDD. I think the problem is the expansion port, because the hardware works fine on the other ps2 and the discs are patched correctly. unfortunately it's not possible to change the expansion port, because it's soldered directly on the mainboard But maybe the HDD utility disc helps. I will try everything.
I knew I wasn't going mad! Sounds like it could be a dodgy PS2 expansion port in that case..... (don't know for sure though but I can't think of any other reason why your PS2 would not be happy with the network adaptor attached). P.S I got your PM and I'll send out the HDD utility disc for you in the morning.
