I never realized how ridiculously difficult it would be to upgrade the drive, I mean all the methods seem straight forward but I always have a hold up. Xboxhdm - found a PC with IDE, wouldn't boot off the disc, it will boot on my PC, but I only have SATA. Chimp - gets stuck at "Starting Linux" where it's supposed to say "Kernel: *version and date etc.*" it just says "Kernel: " so nothing. HeXEn disc by Heimdall - Worked the best so far, managed to format the new disc as NTSC, finished, hit "LOCK" and backed up the eeprom, then it says to restart without the HeXEn disc in, and I get error 06, meaning it can't unlock the drive.. Well shouldn't it have locked the drive properly according to my eeprom? What the hell? Did it lock the drive to some other xbox I don't even have? I'm even using an 80GB IDE drive instead of the 1TB SATA and adapter I bought for my xbox, just because I need to eliminate variables until I can get SOMETHING to work. Any ideas? Why did "locking" not work like it was supposed to?
Did you make sure to select "lock hdd from motherboard"? and not from eeprom? Ive had far better luck with doing it that way myself. Also some newer drives dont support locking, after you run the tool to lock the hdd make sure to go down to the hard drive status and make sure its actually locked. If its not then its possible that hdd isnt capable of doing so.
