What would be the best way to go about installing the PS2 HDDOSD? I have no modchip and have it installed already, but its a pre-made image, and was under the impression that the images are not the best idea
Hi ! Indeed HDD dumps are hack-ish... now that you have it installed, backup all HDDOSD files from HDD to a USB device, then format your HDD with uLE, then copy back HDDOSD files from USB to HDD.
I tried this, but every time I tried to install FreeHDBoot so that the HDD would have a MBR, it would fail, and when I exited the program it dumped me into the normal OSD, and the HDD refuses to boot now. MBR is probably trashed, will have to write a new copy of the image
Alright I got it installed, after formatting the drive and reinstalling the image, i copied the hddosd files to usb then formatted the drive with ule, then copied the files back and installed freehdboot. Thanks for the help
This. 1) Wipe your HDD, write it a temporary uLE MBR; 2) Insert a pressed PS2 CD, turn the disc control on, swap a patched HDD Utility Disc; 3) Goto the HddManager, format the HDD, rename then remove the __boot partition; 4) Run the patched HDD Utility Disc.
I would have installed the HDD software like that, but I have no idea how to do the swap trick for fats
What you did (formatting, copying the HDDOSD, installing FHDB) should be fine. To see how to swap discs, http://members.home.nl/de.jongh/pgz/tutorials/backup_boot.htm scroll down to "Swipe Card Info". As soon as the Disc Control is ON in the uLE settings, the original disc should stop in the main menu, letting you swap it with your patched HDD Utility Disc.
