I'm guessing someone here can probably validate / invalidate this information... http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/05/the-second-xbox-360-revealed-codename-zephyr/
for 50euros ill take it  hopefully they come through with the hdmi version and integrate the hdvd drive
sonofabitch......I buy one the day after xmas and now look......Although i don't have an HDTV yet, the 65nm cpu does intrigue me. and so does that larger HDD Ryan
well you can allways hope that they've upgraded the security in the system if hackers managed to RE the 360. then you can sit there and laugh at 65nm guys that can't mod their consoles ^^
Info on this is shoddy at best. Spy photos of an HDMI motherboard were "leaked" almost a year ago and we are still HDMI-less today. Coupled with the fact that supposedly 65nm won't be ready until summer/fall might push this version back quite a bit. I laughed at all the people getting worked up over this on xbox-scene over the following reasons: HDMI I've yet to see the glory of HDMI other than having one cable for everything (which I will admit, is pretty convenient). Integrated HD-DVD I like that I currently have the choice of having this or not. Not sure why everyone wants it internalized so badly.
Crap, I didnt thought about that, now I'm depressed:-( So I have to choose between a potential useless brick and one that I wont be able to hack, bummer!
HDMI is only really useful if you consider the protected movies. It is the inclusion of the HD-DVD drive that would require an HDMI output, in order to comply with the HDCP standards. I see this not as a replacement of the Premium package, but rather an 'Ultimum' package directly competing with the PS3, feature-to-feature, excluding WiFi and the Card-readers. I wish they did include Wifi out-of-the-box actually. It must be remembered that it is the lowering of the production costs that has allowed MS to make such a bold move. If you recall, due to rights issues this was not possible with the original XBOX , as not owning every component in the box stopped the gradual decrease of price per unit. PS: judging by the CE sign, is it a PAL?
I'm looking at the back of my 360 right now and it has the same CE label. I'd imagine that it's just one "universal" label put on all 360's. Anyway, I remember MS claiming that the AV out could handle digital output, so either they were lying or want the consumer to have a choice of hdmi cables. If they offered such an hdmi cable for current systems than I'd be a happy camper, especially being able to play HDDVD and upscaled DVD's at 1080p, plus freeing up a component input. That, and I really dont want to use vga, especially since thats where my DC is hooked up.
the video out port could possibly (or couldn't) do HDMI. What it can't do is pass HDCP. Also, HDCP is not possible to work over the USB interface, thus hooking up an external HD-DVD drive to a 360 that has HDMI won't cut it for HDCP and 1080p/720p (for protected content). For the above reasons, the Zephyr will have an HDMI and I assume, an internal HD-DVD drive.
More info and pics here. http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEylpyZkVpwzemjZKk.php You can tell by the pics its a prototype motherboard.
Well actually, HDCP is only meant to protect video output in the digital realm, it has 0 to do with the input of the medium, if it be from SATA HDD, PATA HD-DVD, or even USB, as the video is AACS encrypted on disk, and the decryption of the video happens inside the CPU, which is passed along to the HDCP chip, and sent on its merry way over HDMI/DVI, being HDCP crypted. So again, USB dont mean a thing, HDCP = video output, and the usb drive will still work fine! And if that doesnt cut it, look at any PC, they can use the 360 USB drive fine, and output over HDCP'd HDMI/DVI!
Indeed there are, PowerDvd Ultra and WinDVD (8?) have HD-DVD and Blu Ray flavors, and output full 1080p as long as certain conditions are met!
considering my monitor only does up to 1280x1024, please feel free to mention the conditions ^_^ (I only VGA output from my graphics card)
