Hi Everyone, Way back when HDTV's were just coming out, I got suckered into buying one when the HDMI standards weren't in place yet. As a result, I have an HDTV which can only display HD content over Component. Now, I understand that there are many HDMI to Component cables available on the Internet, however many of those simply change the connectors, but do nothing to the signal. That is, your device must output analog over HDMI or it won't work. My question is, will something like this work? Or is this still a passive device? http://cgi.ebay.com/HD-PS3-Bluray-H...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5888d96a4e I'd also be kind of interested to know if the Nvidia ION chipset supports analog output over HDMI or only digital. Any thoughts?
I've never heard of a device that supports this. It's certainly not part of the HDMI specification. That box should do what you want, anyway. It won't. Again, analogue over HDMI is just wrong, like putting diesel in a petrol engine. It's anathema to the standard, and probably dangerous to the hardware. Some dodgy Chinese manufacturers might be running a scam on ebay where they sell "HDMI to component" cables that are just a pass-through, but Nvidia will toe the line. EDIT: did a little research as I was curious about the idea. Turns out that some "networked media boxes" will output analogue over HDMI, but this is very uncommon. Assume that nothing supports it.
