I feel like a jerk for hopping on here immediately for a request for help but I recently purchased a Model 2 Sega CD and when I hooked it up to my Model 1 Sega Genesis, I kept getting a black and blue lined screen with a buzzing noise on my TV. After about 10 seconds my whole TV screen fades to black. My Genesis worked perfectly before but now even when the Sega CD isn't hooked up to it, I get the black and blue lines on my screen with the buzzing. Can anyone tell me if they've experience this before and what could have caused it? I really need the help, it's my favourite classic console, I don't have money for a new one and I'm kind of freaking out. Thank you!

You might get a better response in the repairs section, but thanks for using the introduction forum! :)

Was the Sega CD definitely working before you bought it? It could be that it was faulty and caused damage to the Genesis - a bit strange, though. Check the PSUs are outputting the correct voltage and current. After that, I'm afraid it's standard fault-finding procedure. Start with checking the right voltage is getting to various parts of the circuit.

Possibly bad capacitors, but follow retro's advice and throw a thread in the repairs section. Welcome to the community!

Thank you for the insightful response! I will definitely go onto the repairs section.

The Sega CD was purchased as is. I honestly didn't know what state it was in. I didn't know it could potentially cause damage if it had a problem. The PSUs are compatible according to the manuals. I guess I'll wait to hear from others as well. Thank you again!
