I have been a long time lurker but decided to register finally. I am a huge fan of video games and game development. I live in Colorado, have a degree in 3D and Visualization and am now interested in learning game development. I see members here have lots of development hardware and it all looks beautiful! I am very interested in aquiring some for myself. I currently plan on learning C++ and take it from there. How did you all come to aquire these development kits/software? I current;y work for HP and it is a fine company. On a side note, was it difficult to learn how to program in C++. Do most of the development kits require some assembly language? Thank you for your time, GAMEFAN :icon_bigg
Most game programming can be done without assembly language. 99.999% of what i do is using C++, the only thing you would really use assembly for is high end graphics engine design. Where do we get the equipment? Some of us work in the industry designing games, some of us are game reviewers, some of us buy the equipment from companies that go out of business. If you're not in the industry, the assemblergames marketplace is probably the best place on the web to find dev equipment. The next best place is ebay, but they have a tendancy to take down auctions for such things. If you ever have any programming questions, feel free to ask. There are also experts on setup and hardware around here too, so feel free to ask around.
