Hi, I'm an old school gamer, literally. I have gotten into soldering and modding systems as a means of restoring my old systems. I greatly enjoy soldering and working on my systems. I look forward to learning more about working on video game systems. I have found this site from asking for repair help on youtube. I still have more questions, and feel like the more work I do the more I find that needs to be fixed.
Welcome! It's not every day that you come across someone who actually enjoys soldering. I can't solder a single thing without burning myself several times...
Sorry, I just burn my wife's coffee table several times instead. lol. I have gotten better at it after watching many youtube videos and practice, practice, practice. I did lots of practicing before I touched a soldering iron to either my nes or snes.
Coffee table?! That's too low for soldering. You need to be able to sit correctly (as per workplace rules for posture) - sitting on a carpet is going to make you full of static, which could well fry components. You also need to be able to get close to the components (preferably with a magnifying glass) and have sufficient lighting. Burn the dining table instead I mean, get a nice big bit of board and put it on top of the dining table... if you're not going to get a proper bench, of course! Anyway, welcome!
I upgraded to the dinning room table that is higher and better lighting. I still need magnifying glass, but it at least gets me to where my glasses. Thank you.
