Ok so I'm using my ghetto laptop and talking on aim and all of a sudden it dies... like locks up... no problem I figure and so I power it down, when I power it back up, I get 8 POST beeps... indicating something wrong with the video memory. I have an important CD in the drive that I can't eject either, someone I'm friends with would like some files off of it and it just cut out in the midst of sending... if anyoen knows any ways to pry open my laptops CD drive without resorting to a screw driver (for my legal case I can't break any warrenty aggrement), please help, theres no emergency eject either... Lastly I need some help with charging my laptop distributor. It at all possible I just want my freaking data and money back from that god forsaken laptop and possibly a bit extra for the stress ive gone through, not being able to use it for school, not being able to handle odd jobs or homework, and not being able to use it portably. Heres a list of what was wrong to begin with: PC card slot Video Chipset Battery You would think after being out 4 MONTHS it would be fixed, right? Well, PC card slot was repaired, no problems there. Video chipset was replaced but when doing TV out there was a TON of static on the overlays and now the POST is complaing about the video chipset. THe battery that shipped with it held about 2 hours, it degraded to about 10 min and held steady till I sent it in. I got it back and it wont hold ANY charge and they refuse to replace it dispite it being under warrenty (and yes Im sure batteries are covered, they aren't in the exemption clauses). (by the way we called to follow up on this[multiple times] and we cant get anywhere) On top of that: They password protected the BIOS My RAM is not all there (should be 512, only seeing 300 something) My processor is underclocked to 1.8 GHZ Missing grips on bottom of the machine Maltreatment (AKA scratches on case and LCD and dark pixels on the LCD) They keyboard is extremely greasy They lied when they said they sent it to the manufacturer, we called and they never got it, they sent it to a 3rd party company There were homosexual anthromorphic pornographic materials that I did not place on there present (Can't bring this up to my parents however...) The laptop was just over $1210.00 and I must have spent at LEAST 500-600 dollars in costs to ship it, make phone calls all over the country to talk to these people, gas money for going to other peoples houses to do my homework (I have a linux class and my friend Nik about 45 min away let me install a red hat partition so I could do my homework there since my parents wont allow a seperate OS on the HD). They prevented me from: doing my school work doing a side job to earn tution finding out who really had my laptop and they: wasted my time and cell mins(we dont have long distance) stressed me out to no end lied to us all I want is: my data my money back some compensation maybe a total of $2800 which I think is reasonable considering I had to backup my data the first time I sent it in and spent a HUGE chunck of cash on DVDs to back it up to AND I could not claim jobs involving my area of service (web, small business programs, etc). I had to my aunts entire site in notepad at her house in the basement and couldnt test my cgi code because I had to go all the way to school with the stuff on floppies and upload it that way. bottom line: what can I accuse them of (in legal jargon)? They are based in ohio so if anyone knows any ohio specific laws that would be great. The online Ohio consumer complaint form CGI errors out when you try to complete a complaint so I have to snail mail mine in but it asks what I am seeking and I also want to put down why so anyone, im desperate for help here... im about to croak from the stress levels im exhibiting
Well, if you really need the CD out, look at the face of the drive. You should see a little hole in the face of it. What you do is you put the end of a paperclip in there and push. It should pop the drive open. Though this should work and is generally safe. Blur2040 claims no responsibility for any stupid things you might do while attempting this. Edit: Oh crap, I didn't see the "no emergency release" thing. Uh, what I would do there is to dissassemble the computer and get the disk out that way if I REALLY needed it. Though...what kind of CD drive has no emergency release thingee.
Get a lawyer and throw their arses to court if they don't give you what you should get. It's rediculous the way they have treated you with all defects they should have given you a new laptop ages ago they could have send your old one back to the factory under warrenty and gotten a new one.
Purge- most of the time if you bitch loud enough, these morons who work at these places will give you your money back. If at all possible find a local office of pcinfinty.net and go down there in person, get a real human being to help you, or call and talk to someone in person. People tend to be a lot more helpful (and fearfull of getting fired over an angry customer) when you talk to them face to face rather than e-mail. No need to sue them, sometimes just the threat of a lawsuit is enough, especially if they disobeyed thier own return policy. Just get a phone number, scream, rant, rave, sound pissed off, imply that you lost lots of money through this laptop. Don't take no for an answer, blah blah blah, becasue fuck them. Good luck.
I have called every day from 6 months ago up until 2 months ago when they started hanging up on us whenever we called. I live near chicago, Its a bit far and too expensive to travel to Ohio. We've talked to them, the manyfacturer and the 3rd party they sent the machine to. Its been running circles for 2 months and I got fed up so yesterday I called Ohios attourney general. My family members and I belive the company is a small one (less than $1,000,000 in sales a year) but we are getting sick of the crap we've been put through, the poor attourney general secretary couldn't even understand my voice it was so hoarse from yelling and being sick and stressed... I appreciate the advice though, I just want to get this over with so I can freaking use a computer in my home and not have to wait 3 hours while my sister chats on AOL to do my homework.
Definately bitch. Most companies will work with you if threatened with a lawsuit. Although, if it did go to court, you might want to lay off the "it stressed me out" and "it cost me huge amounts of time" stuff, as a lot of people see that as melodramatic and ridiculous, even if it did happen. You probably would've been better off buying fixing the laptop yourself, in the end. Bloody shite repair jobs nowadays. :smt067 :smt067
