Killed it searching for an alternative point for Bios pin 28. Edit: Ended up killing the board trying to solder to IC 502. Hi everyone. Today i tried to do the piggyback bios mod on one of my dreamcasts. After checking for shorts and continuity between the legs of both bios chips, everything seemed to be in working order so i plugged it and turned it on. The console booted up but got stuck at the Dreamcast logo for about 2 minutes before going to the menu. After that the menu works great, but no disc is ever recognized. If i insert a disk, it spins as usual, but the console gets stuck at the "checking disk" message. So after triple checking everything, i spotted a potential problem at leg 28 of the original chip. It seems like the pad in the motherboard went missing. I tried to follow the trace, but it goes beneath an adjacent chip, and i can't follow it. Can anyone please help me find an alternative spot for that pin? My motherboard is a VA1. Here is a picture of the pin already lifted: Thanks in advance.
I dont know how relevant it is for you, but after doing the bios-mod on mine I got the same problem as you because of some trouble with the connection to the gd-rom. I loosened the screws on the drive a bit and it worked flawless right away.
Thanks for the advice. I didn't even screw my drive, but i made sure that it was firmly connected. Anyway, this is no longer relevant. On a good board i manage to trace pin 28 of the Bios chip going to pin 34 of the IC502 next to it, but as i tried to solder to it, i found out that it is way too thin for my skill, and i ended up messing it, and now i have a dead board. I'll save it for later, maybe i can save it if/when i get better with the soldering iron. Thank you anyway.
