Maybe an external RAID1 enclosure will be able to back-up the disk?

Lindbergh HD disks are Hardware Locked, you can not access to them, outside the lindbergh.

On my lindbergh multi boot i use a speacial custom Keychip with Debug Mode Enabled, that allows me to use a hard disk on lindbergh for multi boot without locking it.

No it's possible you'd just have to sniff the bus to get the HDD key.

In the past I have done similar things by backing up the drive as is, without the unlock key, using dd from a Linux LiveCD, but i personally wouldn't do this unless you were sure it wouldn't screw up your disk in some way. I have no idea how the hardware protection works and if that could cause unwanted results.

My multiboot uses SATA interface, is 100% clonable and give huge speed increase. This is why IDE multiboots are gay, you cannot clone the hdd.

Wouldn't hotswapping the drive work, like you could with the original XBOX? Of course if you made a 1:1 clone to another drive you'd still have to lock that somehow, but it should suffice for for making a backup that you could restore on the original drive. Which is better than no backup at all, at least.

I don't think it's very smart to hotswap IDE drive, they are not hot swappable :(

    Lindbergh Hard Disk

In Fact is hot swappable if you do it the right way and keep power and reset stable.

But i'm more old school and i prefered the right way:

    What a mess of wires:

And then you can boot from a CF too, emulating Hard Disk:
