I need to replace 2 x SILs shown here labelled TRJ-001, but am unsure of the correct type, all I know is they are faulty. The resistance across the pins is 1KOhm, I get no connection testing pin 10 with any of the others. Does anyone have a clue what the correct replacement component is?
Well the board is Double Dragon and the 'resistor networks' in question are in fact custom ICs. Hence the IC mark above them as well as the components covered in epoxy look about them. They are in between the joystick inputs and the decoders so they are probably glorified optocouplers. You'd be best off finding another technos board for parts or talk to a PCB repair place as they maybe able to bypass them.
Bypass them is a bad idea, though. You might end with logic chips blown. And some machines use ASICs as inputs instead of discrete TTL chips. A great example was a repair I did on a CPS2 A board which had it's coin input *melt down* by a misplaced coin counter. The I/O LSI DL-1123 shorted out and was over heating, the coin copper track melt and the resistor network part (which in the CPS2 case consists of a 220 ohm resistor plus a pair of zener diodes for protection) had a gapping hole in it at the coin1 signal line. In the CPS2 case it was quite easy to obtain the ASIC, but on other boards/systems it might be very hard. So bypass the protection is a very bad idea.
I'm not gonna bypass them, channelmaniac is supplying me with 2 x direct replacements for the faulty hybrids.
