I picked this big wall scroll up from a guy who ran an arcade back in the 80's/90's along with a bunch of marquees for random old games, but I'm having a helluva time figuring out what game it's from. He was 90% sure it was from an arcade game, but he couldn't remember which one either and had forgotten where he even got it. There are no markings anywhere, not even an artist's signature on the art itself, it's maddening. The only game I could find that even remotely fit the 4 characters was Quartet, but obviously that it isn't it. Anyway, it's not important or anything, just one of those things that's been driving me crazy because I feel like I should know the game, it seems familiar somehow, but I just can't come up with anything through google searches for the character types, description of the picture, or even an image search. Hopefully it rings a bell for someone here, otherwise I think I'll have to take it down as looking at it drives me nuts, hah.
Wow, bad American arcade art The faces look like they've been stuck on as an after thought. But back on to topic. Hmm, at first I thought the art could be from Data East's Night Slashers. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/02/Night_Slashers_arcadeflyer.png
The guy in the hat reminded me of Growl, but there's no playable woman characters in that. The castle wouldn't really fit either.
Ha, yeah the art is pretty bad, but I have a soft spot for bad 80's art. I haven't seen that Night Slashers game before, that's another one that sorta fits but not really. Same with Growl; that one and Quartet were the first games that sprang to my mind, but both just sorta fit. Makes me wonder if it's just based on some random mashup of games or maybe some obscure chinese pirate game from the 80's or 90's, that might explain the characters that individually fit other games, but when taken as a whole (along with that Castlevania looking background) fit nothing. Thanks for the replies though guys, I appreciate it!
First thing that came into my head was House of the Dead, but it looks older and blatantly not from the HotD series. It does remind me of an arcade rails shooter though, as each character has an individual weapon and posing like many art pieces from that genre, it just reminds me of one of those types of games by looking at the art.
It definitely looks like an '80s-ish pirate redrawing. First game with that mood that sprang to mind is Dark Adventure: http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=564&page=1#782
im gonna guess 80s rather than 90s but as to what game, no idea however it does look strangely familiar reminds me of Commodore 64 era
The light gun game idea was something I hadn't thought of, but after going through basically every light gun game ever made I couldn't find a match there either. I don't know why I even care, but it's become a mission to me. Maybe it's actually from nothing, that would really suck, ha.
