Any recommendation for a good "cheap" s-video and component video switcher box (that doesn't have any "checkerboard" distortions?)
Hey friend! I purchased this from my local Walmart the other day: https://www.walmart.com/ip/GE-4-Device-Audio-Video-Switch/16561368 However, it doesn't have anything for component. It's strictly composite and s-video. I hooked up my Dreamcast, Xbox, Genesis and PS1 through component and was hoping to output to s-video or something, but I think my s-video cable was bad, so I'm just outputting to component. To tell you the truth, it looks as good as those consoles would look hooked up to an HDTV with component cables. I didn't notice any distortions with the switcher. It just removes the hassle of having to unplug component cables from my TV whenever I wanna switch consoles. Hope this helps!
that only has s-video and composite, according to reviews on Amazon, it has "checkerboard" distortion with the video from console games.
I am also interested in a good s-video switcher. One that doesn't degrade picture quality or have the checkerboard issue. Would certainly makes things a lot more convenient with my current setup.
https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Composite-Connections-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B000092YPH this one is really good supposedly. It just lack component jacks. I'm trying to find a good quality switcher that supports component and s-video.
Thanks for the tip. I'll have to order one when I get the chance. Unfortunately I can't really seem to find one that has both quality s-video and component. The only one I found was this: https://www.amazon.com/Vanco-280322-Component-Composite-Selector/dp/B001702I6Q It's a generic brand with 2 ports for s-video/composite and 3 for component. The radioshack one on amazon has checkerboard issues, so I wouldn't be shocked if this one does too. You might just be better off getting two switch boxes, one quality s-video and one quality component.
