It's been years since I've looked at any computer hardware and there is just so much stuff on the market I don't know where to begin. Pretty much I want to build a new computer, nothing too crazy or expensive, I just need it to run world of warcraft at max settings(or near maxed). Is like to stay under 500 USD, but can spend a little more if necessary. I already have kb, mouse and monitor. The cheaper the better!

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me

There's been a recall of all new intel motherboards. You will have to wait.
If all you have is $500, I would advise you go to dell outlet and get a refurbished
system. They have great prices which can combine with twitter coupons for
    an unbeatable low price.

    Refurb 22 inch monitor $80
    Refurb tower $380-500

    free shipping

Or you can go with amd

    CPU3.0GHz AMD Athlon II X4 640

    MotherboardMSI 770-C45

    Memory4GB 1,333MHz DDR3

Graphics CardSapphire ATI Radeon HD 6850

    PSUCorsair 400CX 400W

CPU Cooler (US)Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro

    CaseAntec Three Hundred

World of Warcraft runs on damn near anything. All you really need is an Athlon XP with a 6800gt and I'm sure it'll run at 60fps with VSYNC on at 1600x1200.

Now if you want something a bit more substantial (folding@home, BF:BC2, Crysis) then ASSEMbler's suggestions work just fine. For a bit more cash there are 6 core AMD procs out there but I would advise against Intel not only for the above reason but because their CPUs run hotter (typically that is) and cost quite a bit more than comparable offerings from AMD.
