    Hello!

I had a friend who's father got him all sorts of Megadrive/Genesis games. He had a bootleg cartridge with 6 games (i think): Tetris, Alex Kid, Shinobi, other i can't remember and this really obscure horror game featuring a girl-witch killing horrible demon-like creatures where babies were born out of orifices on the meaty walls. Bare with me, i'm not crazy, this game exists and i'm really eager to find it out.

    Thoughts anyone? :)

It sounds like Mamono Hunter Yohko or Devil Hunter Yohko in English. It's quite well known in Japan. Could the main character make a ball with her sword? If not then it may be a Valis game.

    Devil Hunter Yohko ?

One of the best Mega Drive games I ever played... Tricky platformer with fresh (at the time) mechanics.

Definitelly not for casual gamers.

The other day I played it again (on the real thing, this is no emulator)

Getting to this part without using continues then dying six of them (each continue has four lives) on the last boss ...

    lol

It was also another hell of a hard and challenging game. Great memories.

Point for you, because this one had the monsters mentioned by the op on the very first stage. So it's more than likely you got the game the OP meant...

But then as a big fan of Masaya (Nippon Computer System or NCS) games I'd say I still prefer Namono Hunter Yohko ... :love2:

    Edit, for the OP:

Kujaku ou II (孔雀王2 幻影城)Mystic Defender

If you pop the cartridge on an non Japanese console, the title changes to Mystic Defender, the character and the story are completely different.

Ah yeah, Mystic Defender! I own the Japanese version of that. A trully rock hard but fantastic game just like Mamono Hunter Yohko. Ah, they were the days. JPN Mega Drive connected to a 26" Toshiba Surround Sound TV via RGB, sitting on my bed playing Mega Drive. Ah..... The memories are coming back.

Your fortunate the best we can get in the states is s-video, which is worse with genesis considering you have to mod it to get s-video output.

Too true but since I was born people in the states have had everything cheaper than us in the UK and most of Europe even after you take in to account the exchange rates. So it's not all gloom :)
