Well, My playstation is pretty old, but I have it modded and I really like it. Anyway, a while back, the spindle hub broke (the part that holds the disc in place). I bought a new one and replaced it and it would skip like a mother in game and in cutscenes and sound and the FMV. So I bought a new one, replace it using feeler gauges to measure it according to the guide that came with the piece and the skipping reduced but now it still skips in some games in the FMV. Any idea why or what I can do to fix it? If not, where can I get a modded PS1 for cheap?
haven't seen too many chip's PS nowadays... I do have chip'd PAL unit as a backup in case anything happens to my Debugstation... have you tried eBay.com.au or eBay.co.uk?
I'm going to go out on a limb here... Obviously the drive isn't pulling data fast enough. It is either the laser, or the motor. Usually the motor will long outlive the laser, but on occasions it'll die an early death. It's nearly impossible to kill a drive motor from overuse, but sometimes the windings will come loose, or something will get jammed in there. Try the laser first, if that doesn't work swap the motor.
Yeah, Richspsxparts is where I got my spindle hub from... Are you guys sure it has nothing to do with the spindle hub? Because the first time I replaced the hub, it was REALLY bad on the skipping. After I installed a different new hub using feeler gauges to measure the distance from the lens, the skipping cut WAY down. Im not questioning your judgement, just wondering if it's possible at all. As far as replacing the laser, forget that, it's out of the question, Im not good with that kind of stuff at all.
