Bought a green debug xbox from somone the other day but it is broken. It is a NTSC machine. Apparently the guy who I bought it from used a PAL 240v power adaptor & blew it! Anyone know if this is an easy fix? Power board or a fuse? How the hell do I open up the damn machine lol? Anyone who can help, please do :EDIT: Ok, after looking on Old Engineer's site it seems I have a Xbox Live Beta/debug unit. OE, do you have any idea about how I could get this going? http://oldengineer.com/gallery/v/mxb/bxbd/betalive/betadebugkitdocs.html Looks just like this one!
Should be a very easy fix. It will have blown one varistor in the PSU, at the very least. You could either replace the varistor and hope that it hasn't blown other components on the PSU or replace the PSU for a complete unit. ...You need a ver 1.0 PSU Opening the Xbox is easy. 6 Torx screws hold the case together. 4 are to be found in the corners under the rubber pads, peel back gently from the outside to reveal. The other 2 are under the security seal stickers, feel and u will find. Once inside lift the IDE cable to reveal a tiny Torx screw which holds the HDD cradle in place. Unplug IDE and HDD power plug Undo the screw and lift out the HDD feeding the PSU wires out through their slot. 2 Srcews hold the PSU in place, remove these and slide the PSU backwards out of its mounting lugs. Viola, you are sorted!
Nice one OE, however I have no idea what a varistor is lol. I'll see about getting a ver 1 psu. Will it matter if it is a US or a UK one?
It won't matter if u have a step down 110vac transformer. ...if u dont have a transformer u would be better off buying a U.K 240vac ver that way it will never get blown up accidently
Thats what I was looking for So it wont affect the way the console works. Good, I'll look for a V1 240vac PSU thing! Cheers
If you want to convert your beta live debug kit into a debug kit I can give you a link if you want to know.
Heh. You'd be best off selling it and buying a regular debug. No need to kill a rare piece of hardware just to convert it to a more common one. Converting a Live Debug into a Debug is like converting a Debug into a Retail kit. -hl718
I wouldnt consider converting it back to a normal Debug, it would seem a shame. I only bought the machine as a little project, I dont need or want a debug machine, I'm just interested in dismantling it, getting it working again and seeing what is on the machine. Then I'll sell it
If it really is a Beta Live! Debug Kit it wont have anything 'on it', or indeed any way of access to 'nothing', if that makes sense! :banghead:
Yes, that makes sense. Thinking back I read somwhere that it wouldn't have anything 'on it'. Will the machine display anything on a screen if I switch it on?
I know from reading some where, that the dash files on the BEta Live are just the retail dash files. Nothing really special about them. From wha tI understand, it is just the ahrdware that is different on the Beta Lives (EEPROM, and BIOS). Anyways, good luck with it all. Paintball
Hehe...You could use a regular straight screwdriver to do the same job, it only needs to jam between two of the flats in the head of the screw.
Could do, but all my tools are old & rusty! Anyway, I got the correct sized bit now & put in the PSU. Man, it is almost as easy to dismantle an xbox as it is to dismantle a Dreamcast lol! Well it boots up just fine. Guess I'll sell it now, get something a bit more useful to me Thanks for your help on how to do it OE
