Hello every one, I found this poor NeoGeo in a flee market and payed around 15 USD for it , i always dreamed of owning one, so i got a compatible A/C and a Sega Genesis 1 A/V but of course the NeoGeo didn't working. all I've got is a pink screen (without a cartridge inserted) or a junk screen (with cartridge inserted). i started searching youtube and all i could find is different suggestions but I'm not sure where is the problem. so can any one please help!! Thanx
Have you opened it? That looks like some serious external damage, no telling what state the board is in. Oh, and your pictures are HUGE, might need to resize them.
yup ,but didn't notice any thing wrong !! i don't actually know how to test it, but i didn't notice any leakage from the capacitors. anyway I'll post a pic for the board.
yeah, hook it up on your tv and tell us what you see. I think this is the first diagnosis you should try.
4saken if you got a pink screen always without the cart inserted that means a problem with the bios. Here are the colors: Blue = All tests passed (does not test z80). Red = WorkRAM error (0x100000 region). Green = PaletteRAM error (0x400000 region). Yellow = VideoRAM error (programmed through custom port). Pink = Bios selfcheck error (0xC00000 region). Cyan = Memory card error (only tested if card in unit and blank). I hope that help you. You can fix the bios by soldering a new one I recommend a unibios in your case. The case is very badly you can try to fix it with blower heating the plastic a little and push it to place and the using some epoxy to cover the cracks that is what I do with mine I can put a photo if you like.
Thanx for the support Kaicer, but now where to get a new bios ? by hunting for another one and using it as spare parts? and I'll try the blower heating method even if the NeoGeo ain't fixed just for fun
You can get a Unibios here: http://unibios.free.fr/ordering.html I'd contact the site admin before ordering though just to make sure they're still in business.
Like fandangos says razoola is always up for business. But keep in mind that replacing the bios is not easy task you have to be good with the soldering iron and the desolder pump, check online guides just to see the process. Also if you have a programer you can download the free unibios and burn it on an eeprom but that is another process. You can also do the piggyback method but in your case the bios gone bad its better to remove the original.
Replacing a bios on a system that has a different physical fault achieves JACK. And broken traces on the board can and will cause BIOS to read wrong, leading to that pink screen.
