We didn't get amiga's here except as professional equipment. (Video toasters) So I have no practical experience on what equipment is good. I would like a config suggested for a top end system that can play anything, and is as small as possible. Any ideas? All I know is cd32 and cdtv they tried to sell here.
Mmmmmh quite hard... you're planning in games only or in using it as a PC too? for mainly games, an expanded amiga 1200 would not be bad at all expecially if you can get one with cd/Hdd in... and would be relatively cheap and small... if you want to try and use the wonderful amiga OS 3.5 or 3.9, you'll need costier item and the equipment won't be so small... let me know what you plan exactly so that i can help you better!
i dont think theres an amiga that can play everything, but if you want to play the classics, get an amiga 1200 with 2mb chipram, 8mb fastram and an hdd and an a600 for all the games that dont run on the 1200. its been a long time since i last touched an amiga, though, i dont really remember any details.
almost everything works already on an A1200... but for playing almost everything buy kickstart 1.3 disc, or better as expansion card. also you might consider an extra floppy disc. another option is an a500 with 1mb + kickstart 1.3. DON'T Take an amiga500+... edit: let me know if need other infos
lots of amiga on sale right now! here an interesting one http://cgi.ebay.it/AMIGA-1200-CON-S...0094972776QQcategoryZ4598QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
ASSEMbler: if you want an allround old Amiga games Amiga, then the Amiga 2000 with an HD is the answer. But since you also have the CD32, then you can always try to find the expansions modules, that makes your CD32 a fullblown A1200. But there are arseloads of modules, and you can in reality, have 128 mb of memory in your A1200. http://amiga.amigadk.dk/modules/news/
there's no need of that much memory for games... anyway, if i remember well the expansions for the cd32 had great problems like not even fitting in the case and everything would be cumbersome... a good old A1200 is the best, classier and cheaper way to go IMHO... anyway all amigas RULES
What? We DID get Amigas here... Commodore was an American company to start. Anyway, if you want an Amiga that will run pretty much any game, you want either an Amiga 500 or Amiga 3000. I have both, and the 3000 is probably the best option because the 500 will Green Screen from time-to-time, which gets annoying.
Nope, it's a well known fact that Amiga 500's had a problem that caused them to Green Screen from time-to-time... at least it's well known among those who have had extensive time with Amigas, such as myself.
strange ... cause the ones with lots of time on amigas here had "Guru Meditations" a lot, and those were not green ...
last real commodore I ever seen in theus was a c64 and then they just vanished. The good stuff is in the uk, I was implying.
There was a shop in Dallas that sold Amigas. 500, 2000, etc. etc. I bought my 1200 from them brand new.
What nobody has mentioned yet is the whole monitor rigamarole that one has to go through. For almost all games, you need a monitor that supports 15khz horizontally, and PAL (50Hz) vertically. And although all Amigas have composite video output as well, the A500 is monochrome only. Anyway, I'd go with the A1200 with some accelerator card for all-roundedness. If you can't find a decent monitor, isn't the A3000 good for classic games, since it has a built-in scandoubler?
I don't even understand what you are trying to say, but here are the facts, from NewTek forums: The Amiga 500 was pretty bad about Green Screening, all you had to do was pop it open and reset the AGNUS, and try again. And don't you dare try to tell me I don't know anything about Amiga computers. I've been around Amigas all my life, shoot my first computer was an Amiga 500 (that I still own, by the way, along with several other models). Commodore most certainly did not just vanish from the US market after the c64. I know, because one of my family members used to sell Amiga products as a side job to his regular military work, so he had access to all the latest and greatest Amiga products at the time, and believe it or not, Amiga had quite a strong following in the US. It just so happens that it gained a much stronger following in the UK, so that is what most people associate it with.
If you want to go hardcore big boy Amiga then an A4000 (tower version) with one of the PPC accelerator cards would be the way to go, I think some even support PCI cards. You can also fit an A1200 into a tower case (to improve upgrade possibilities) and there used to be mail order/online stores in the UK that sold mounting brackets or even custom cases for the job. Both the A1200 and A4000 feature the AGA GPUs, which are essential to play the top end games and use the later versions of Workbench (the OS). With the updated hardware you could play Quake (1-3 I believe) and a port of Wipeout 2097/XL. http://www.amiga.org/ would be the place to ask, but beware of some of the users on there

? just get a commodore 1084s monitor and youre all set, i dont see the problem there. besides, theres an add-on available that outputs color composite and rf. not just in the uk, but in europe as a whole.
