Hey These were stuffed into a Pippin box that I bought last week. The Seller didn't mention anything about them. It looks like there's a memory module and a controller cable. The module fits into the expansion slot on the underside of the console. Not in the place where you add RAM, but in the place where the accessories connect. If you put the module in the console can't sit on it's bottom like it usually does. Has anyone seen these before?
Wow, apparently you got a very rare piece of dev equipment there! EDIT: nevermind, after reading some more on that page linked above, it appears to be quite common
Yes, as mentioned that's the Kinka v1.0 ROM. It came with retail Pippins. Allows connection of a floppy drive, but no booting from floppy or hard drive. It doesn't allow SCSI at all. You could swap it with a different (i.e. dev) ROM to implement more functions. All is explained here: http://homepage.mac.com/wtnb/pippin/pippin08.htm Oh, and yes, a controller cable, sans controller ;-)
This is where my lack of dev knowledge is going to come into play, but what do you mean when you say, "It came with retails Pippins?" Thanks for the responses so far.
Standard Atmark Pippins bought in the shops came with that ROM board. Dev Pippins had a different ROM board. It is, therefore, possible to do more things with a retail board (i.e. devving) if you can get hold of a different ROM board. Some of the later Atworld Pippins had useful ROM boards, too.
